About the Department The Fiscal Department supports Lakewood Health System's mission by ensuring patients receive clear, accurate financial guidance and assistance throughout their care experience. Our team works collaboratively with clinical and business office staff to support the organization's revenue cycle goals while reducing financial stress for patients and families. Mission for Position The Patient Financial Advocate plays a critical role in ensuring a positive patient experience by assisting patients with their financial obligations related to their medical care at Lakewood Health System. Position Summary The Patient Financial Advocate serves as a key point of contact for patients regarding billing and financial matters. This position is responsible for helping patients understand their financial responsibilities, setting up and managing payment plans, reviewing insurance benefits, and supporting financial assistance programs. The role requires strong communication and problem-solving skills to provide clear, compassionate guidance while ensuring accurate documentation and compliance with revenue cycle processes. By collaborating with internal teams and delivering empathetic customer service, the Patient Financial Advocate helps reduce patient financial stress and supports the overall efficiency of the Fiscal Department. Position Type This position is full-time, 5 days per week. Hours are 8:00am - 4:30pm. No nights, weekends, or holidays required. Qualifications Qualifications High school diploma or GED Ideal Candidate 2+ years of experience with patient financial service in the health care industry
Knowledge of insurance payors, billing procedures, revenue cycle process, and legal aspects of collection procedures
Customer service experience in a healthcare setting is advantageous
Knowledge of insurance coverage and benefits
Ability to problem-solve and prioritize tasks
Strong organizational and multitasking abilities
Effective verbal and written communication skills
Proficiency in computer systems and documentation
