Job Description
Description Are you passionate about using your own journey of recovery to empower others? Join our dynamic, multidisciplinary Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) team as a Peer Support Specialist ! We are looking for someone with lived experience in mental health recovery who wants to make a real difference, providing hope, advocacy, and community-based support to adults living with severe and persistent mental illness, co-occurring diagnosis and/or substance use disorder. As a Peer Support Specialist , you aren't just a team member—you are the heart of our recovery-focused approach. What You'll Do:
- Be a
Beacon of Hope:
Utilize your own lived experience with mental health challenges to inspire, engage, and support clients in their recovery journey.Meet Clients Where They Are:
Provide community-based, face-to-face support in clients' homes, neighborhoods, and natural environments.- Be an
Advocate:
Ensure client voices, preferences, and goals are respected, understood, and central to the team's treatment planning.Coach & Educate:
Provide peer counseling, psychoeducation, and mentoring on wellness, self-care, and illness self-management.Support Community Living:
Assist individuals in avoiding unnecessary hospitalizations or incarcerations by providing in-the-moment support.- Collaborate with a
Team:
Work alongside clinicians to help clients navigate community resources, housing, and social services.Documentation:
Complete necessary, timely paperwork to support team integration and regulatory requirements.Requirements What We're Looking For:
Lived Experience:
A personal history of mental health recovery and a willingness to self-identify to support others.Advocacy Skills:
Strong belief in client self-determination and recovery.Empathy & Boundaries:
Proven ability to build trust while maintaining professional ethical guidelines.Reliability:
Valid driver's license and reliable transportation for community visits.What You'll Bring:
- High School diploma or equivalent required.
- Relevant work experience and/or college-level education in human services preferred.
- Lived experience with a willingness to share one's own recovery journey and successful management of mental health challenges required.
- Peer Support Certification endorsed by the State of New Hampshire, or willingness to pursue certification, required.
- Valid driver's license and proof of auto insurance required (or access to a reasonable transportation alternative).
- Travel throughout Riverbend's catchment area to various towns, community locations, client homes, state agencies, or other locations necessitated by job duties is required.
- Training in crisis intervention as a Peer Support Specialist preferred.
