Description:
Boston Music Project (BMP) is seeking a part-time Community Music Teaching Artist to lead introductory group classes in piano, guitar, music production, and podcasting at the Jackson-Mann Community Center. The Teaching Artist will provide engaging, accessible instruction for beginning students, creating a welcoming environment where participants can build musical skills, explore creativity, and collaborate with their peers. The ideal candidate has experience teaching group music classes and is comfortable working across multiple areas of contemporary and instrumental music. Monday-Thursday:
4:30 PM
  • 7:15 PM Monday & Wednesday 4:45-5:45 PM
  • Intro to Piano 6:00-7:00 PM
  • Intro to Guitar Tuesday & Thursday 4:45-5:45 PM
  • Music Production 6:00-7:00 PM

Compensation:
$45 per hour Classes will take place in available studio and conference room spaces at Jackson-Mann. Responsibilities Lead engaging beginner-level group classes in assigned subject areas Create structured, age-appropriate lesson plans that build skills progressively Introduce foundational piano and/or guitar technique and musicianship Teach introductory concepts in music production, recording, and digital music creation Guide students through the fundamentals of podcast creation, including planning, recording, editing, and collaboration Establish a positive and inclusive classroom culture Adapt instruction to meet a range of learning styles and experience levels Communicate student progress, attendance, and classroom needs with BMP staff Collaborate with BMP staff and community partners to support program goals Prepare students to share or present their work when appropriate
Qualifications:
Experience teaching music to children or young people in group settings Strong teaching, classroom management, and student engagement skills Proficiency in one or more of the following areas: piano, guitar, music production, recording, or podcasting Ability and willingness to teach introductory material in multiple subject areas preferred Experience with music production software, recording technology, or digital audio tools preferred Strong communication, organizational, and collaborative skills Passion for making music education accessible, creative, and engaging for students Background or degree in music education, performance, production, audio engineering, or a related field preferred BMP may also collaborate with nearby school partners, including the Winship School, to promote the program and connect students and families with these classes.
