Job Description

Director of Music, Full-Time First Presbyterian Church in Goldsboro, NC has an opening for a full-time Music Director. Competitive salary and benefits package. This individual will develop and lead the worship music ministry for the church, in consultation with the Pastor, building it in a way that is consistent with our church's mission, values and theology. First Presbyterian Church (PCUSA) is a welcoming and inclusive congregation with a long tradition of fine organ, choral, handbell and children's music. We have a three-manual Goulding & Wood pipe organ and a grand piano in the sanctuary. A harpsichord and an additional piano are also available elsewhere in the church. We have a very active adult handbell choir and a growing youth choir program. Services are generally traditional. We have one service on Sunday mornings. Learn more about our church at www.fpcgoldsboro.org. General Responsibilities 1. Plan, organize, coordinate and conduct the music program of the church to bring glory to God. 2. Recruit, organize and conduct choirs and instrumental groups, including the adult handbell choir and youth choir. 3. Select, prepare and perform appropriate service music including prelude, postlude, choir music and hymns. 4. Play for special services such as Christmas Eve and Maundy Thursday. 5. Provide music for weddings and funerals for additional compensation. 6. Direct musical programming for congregational events. 7. Meet regularly with Pastor in planning and coordinating the music for all worship services. 8. Oversee the maintenance and servicing of the church's musical instruments. 9. Select and purchase music that will become part of the church music library. Maintain music library. 10. Attend monthly meeting of Worship Committee. 11. Coordinate and plan special music services and programs; recruit performers, schedule rehearsals, procure materials. Quali fi cations
Required:
Bachelor's Degree in music, or equivalent combination of education and experience Demonstrated proficiency in organ and piano performance Experience directing a church choir or comparable vocal/instrumental ensemble Ability to read, prepare, and lead liturgical and choral music in a traditional worship setting A genuine enthusiasm for working with young people and a strong interest in leading and growing a youth choir program Experience with directing a handbell choir
Preferred:
Experience directing a full church music program (choral, handbell, and children's music) Familiarity with Presbyterian (PCUSA) or similar liturgical traditions American Guild of Organists (AGO) certification — Colleague (CAGO), Associate (AAGO), or Fellow (FAGO) — or equivalent professional credential To Apply Please submit a resume, a music sample or recording of an organ performance, and any additional materials upon request to firstpres.search.committee@gmail.com.
