Job Description
Position Summary The Church Organist/Choir Director is responsible for providing musical leadership that supports and enhances the worship life of the congregation. This role includes playing the organ and piano for all regular worship services, directing the adult choir, planning music in collaboration with pastoral staff, and contributing to the overall worship experience of the church. Key ResponsibilitiesOrganist Duties Play organ and/or piano for all scheduled worship services (Sundays, seasonal services, funerals, weddings when available). Provide preludes, offertories, postludes, hymns, liturgical music, and accompaniment as needed. Rehearse and prepare music that complements the Scripture, liturgical season, and worship theme. Maintain consistent, reliable presence for all worship services or arrange qualified substitutes when necessary. Choir Director Duties Direct and rehearse the choirs, typically weekly or as scheduled. Select appropriate choral anthems for the liturgical year in collaboration with pastoral staff. Teach, inspire, and support choir members of varying abilities. Schedule and lead additional rehearsals as needed for special services (Christmas, Holy Week, Easter, etc.). Collaboration & Planning Work with the pastor and worship planning team to coordinate music selections. Attend staff or worship planning meetings as needed. Communicate effectively with choir members, volunteers, and church leadership. Administrative Responsibilities Maintain the music library, choir folders, and rehearsal materials. Provide information for weekly bulletins (titles, composers, special music). Coordinate maintenance needs for the organ and piano. Qualifications Strong proficiency in organ and piano performance. Experience directing church choirs and leading congregational music. Knowledge of Christian liturgical worship; familiarity with Lutheran tradition preferred. Ability to work collaboratively with staff and volunteers. Strong organizational and communication skills. A commitment to supporting Christ-centered worship and the mission of Trinity Lutheran Church.
