Job Description

Director of Music - Organist and/or Pianist - Part Time St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Mountville, Pennsylvania, is seeking one musical leader to serve our mid-sized, traditional congregation and lead our complete music ministry, including organ and/or piano, Chancel Choir, and Handbell Choir. This is a permanent part-time position available beginning as soon as mutually agreeable. The Opportunity Play organ and/or piano, as appropriate, for one traditional Sunday worship service at 9:45 a.m. Choir warm-up begins at 9:15 a.m. Direct and accompany a capable Chancel Choir of approximately 12 singers. The choir performs SATB and SAB repertoire ranging from classical to contemporary traditional music. Direct a small Handbell Choir of seven ringers.
Lead Thursday evening rehearsals:
Handbells at 6:30 p.m. and Chancel Choir from 7:30 to approximately 8:30 p.m. Collaborate with the pastor in selecting music that supports Scripture, the liturgical season, and the worship theme. Coordinate our Summer Music Series using an established budget and roster of guest musicians. Additional musicians and new musical talents are encouraged and welcomed. Provide music for our Christmas Music Service, Christmas Eve, Ash Wednesday, Maundy Thursday, Music Sunday, and other special services. Instruments and Resources Three-manual, 68-stop Buch/Walker digital organ with floating solo division, based on Aeolian-Skinner specifications. Baldwin studio upright piano. Three octaves of Schulmerich handbells and Malmark handchimes. Large and varied music library. Compensation and Appointment Annual salary of $16,000-$18,000, depending upon experience and expertise. Two weeks of paid vacation annually during each of the first two years. Additional compensation for Funerals, Weddings, etc. will be provided. Qualified students are welcome to apply. Strong pianists who are actively developing their organ skills will also be considered, provided they are interested in leading the complete music ministry and aggressively pursue organ skill development.
