Bell Choir Director Sulphur Grove UMC Dayton, OH Job Details Part-time $20.19 - $22.10 an hour 8 hours ago Benefits Flexible schedule Qualifications Conducting music Teaching music Schedule management Handbell choir conducting Music Education Leadership Team motivation (leadership skill) Communication skills Entry level Under 1 year Full Job Description Job Overview Sulphur Grove United Methodist Church is seeking a part-time Bell Choir Director, responsible for leading rehearsals and performances of the Steeple Bells Handbell Choir and aligning the music selections with church services. The Steeple Bells Handbell Choir typically participates in worship one Sunday per month, from September through May. Sulphur Grove UMC has a strong and varied music ministry that includes organ, piano, chancel choir, handbell choir, and modern worship team. Responsibilities Direct and lead the bell choir, ensuring proper bell techniques, musical expression, and coordination with other ensembles (if requested). Schedule regular rehearsals and performances, integrating the bell choir into appropriate worship services and special events. (September through May) Work closely with the pastor(s) and Music Ministry Coordinator to plan music for worship services, ensuring the music supports the sermon and liturgical theme(s). Collaborate with instrumentalists (e.g., organist, pianist, and other musicians) to coordinate musical elements for services and events. Curate a repertoire that reflects a variety of musical styles (traditional, contemporary, classical, sacred, etc.) and handbell techniques, providing opportunities for all levels of musicianship within the bell choir. Select music that strengthens the worship experience and enriches the spiritual life of the congregation. If a soloist or accompanist is required, copies of the music will be provided no less than one month in advance of performance.
Qualifications/Skills:
A deep understanding and appreciation of sacred music and its role in worship. Strong conducting skills, with experience leading bell choirs. Background in music education or conducting (degree or equivalent experience). Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work with people of various ages and backgrounds. Ability to inspire and motivate others, creating a supportive and encouraging environment for bell choir members. Previous experience in church music ministry is preferred but not required.
