TITLE:
ASSISTANT HIGH SCHOOL BAND DIRECTOR/PERCUSSION DIRECTOR
REPORTS TO:
School Principal
JOB GOAL
Works with the Senior High Band Director to provide musical instruction for students and to present them in performance as part of that instruction.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
Attends and assists the High School Band Director in the instruction with all after school and summer Marching Band Camp rehearsals, activities and performances, after school, jazz, guard, drumline, solo and ensemble and individual audition instruction activities and performances. These duties will include but are not limited to: Band camp which is generally held three weeks before school starts. A typical band camp schedule will include "two a day" morning and afternoon rehearsals. Some schools also schedule evening rehearsals during these weeks. Band Camp Starts in Mid July and is scheduled to run for three full 40 hours before school. After school rehearsals that are held during the course of Marching Season. These are held two to three times a week and are approximately two to three hours in length. After school rehearsals that are held after Marching Band season which include but are not limited to: Three Jazz Band Rehearsals of 90 minutes each, two Winter Guard rehearsals of 120 minutes each and two indoor marching rehearsals which are approximately 120 each. Attend and assist at all Jazz Band, Winter Guard and Indoor Drumline rehearsals. Attend and assist and all State Events including Region and All State Auditions and Clinics, (4 weekends), Solo and Ensemble, (one Saturday), and Concert Band Festival, (one Saturday) Assist with all students who are auditioning for region band and all state band. We generally offer and provide after school assistance one afternoon a week for six weeks. Assist will all Solo and Ensemble Students one day a week after school in instruction and selection of their solo and ensemble music. Organize and conduct Jazz Combo rehearsals as a pull out activity during regularly scheduled Jazz Band Rehearsals. Attendance at all Football Game performances and Parades, including playoff games in which the band participates. The assistant directors will attend, assist and supervise at all Marching Band Festivals and Contests which are scheduled in the fall. These are all day events which are held on Saturdays in the fall. The bands participate in four to six of these events in an average year. Assist in the supervision of all students before and after all marching band rehearsals and performances.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
Teacher Salary Schedule - 201 days
EVALUATION
The performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with Senior High Band Director and School Principal.
