Job Description
Grace United Methodist Church is seeking a part-time Handbell Choir Director to lead our dedicated handbell ensemble beginning in September 2026 . This position is ideal for someone who enjoys working with volunteer musicians and is passionate about using music to enrich worship. Grace UMC is an open, welcoming, and inclusive congregation that values meaningful worship through a blend of traditional and contemporary music. The Handbell Choir Director will collaborate closely with the Director of Worship Arts to help create engaging worship experiences throughout the church year. Responsibilities Direct weekly handbell choir rehearsals (September through May) Select music in collaboration with the Director of Worship Arts Prepare the ensemble for performances during Sunday worship and special services Encourage the musical growth and confidence of volunteer ringers Foster a positive, supportive rehearsal environment Qualifications Experience directing handbell choirs or comparable musical ensembles Ability to read music and teach ringing techniques Strong communication and organizational skills Collaborative spirit and enthusiasm for working with volunteers Previous church music experience is preferred but not required Schedule One evening rehearsal each week (September-May) Sunday morning worship services and occasional special services as scheduled
