Job Description
Overview Triumphant Lutheran Church (TLC) is a congregation of the Southwest Texas Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA). Founded in 1979, Triumphant has grown into a faith community of about 250 active members that reaches out to its neighbors in the city of Garden Ridge and surrounding communities Schertz, Cibolo, Selma, New Braunfels and San Antonio. We celebrate the sacraments, rejoice in God's forgiving grace in Christ, express the truth of the scriptures, and go in peace to serve the Lord. The TLC Praise Band Director position is a salaried, part-time position that is responsible for providing oversight and leadership for the music provided for a contemporary worship service. The position works closely and cooperatively with the TLC Minister of Music in helping to plan music appropriate to the church's liturgy. Responsibilities Provide all music for the contemporary service (prelude, processional, post-sermon, and recessional hymns) and other supporting music as required. Provide the music for additional services (e.g., weddings, funerals, memorials). Additional compensation will be paid for this requirement at $100/hour. Understanding and appreciation for the Revised Common Lectionary (RCL) and the liturgical year. Strong communication and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to interact professionally and positively with church staff, volunteers, and visitors. Ability to exercise discretion and maintain confidentiality and possess strong integrity. A team player with a creative spirit, a positive attitude, and a sense of humor who seeks to collaborate with others for the good of this faith community. Willingness to support and uphold the constitution and bylaws of the ELCA and Triumphant Lutheran Church Be proficient to include contemporary Christian, classic gospel Christian, and hymns from the Evangelical Lutheran Worship (ELW) Hymnal. Provide oversight for Thursday evening rehearsals. Provide the music for special services, such as Ash Wednesday, Maundy Thursday and Christmas Eve, and for special events, as needed, such as the installation service for a pastor, etc. Experience Bachelor's degree (B.A. or B.S.), in music or related field, or equivalent experience. Passion for worship music, with the ability to energize and engage congregational singing. Ability to play both traditional and contemporary worship music of some form (guitar, bass, keyboards) and sing. Proven experience leading a praise band or church choir, with a strong background in music performance and direction. Demonstrated ability to teach and develop musicians of varying skill levels, including children, youth, and adults. Knowledge of music theory, arrangement techniques, and contemporary worship styles. Familiarity with sound equipment operation, audio mixing, and basic troubleshooting skills. Strong communication skills for effective collaboration with staff, volunteers, parents, and congregation members.
