Job Description

Position Details Position Start Date 10/12/2026 Terms/Schedule Approximate end date 1/24/27 Appointment Type Seasonal Description Waukesha West High School is looking for a Music Director for "High School Musical."
Calendar:
Auditions begin October 12th Rehearsals M-F 3:15-5:30 p.m. Beginning January 4th, Rehearsals run until 6:30 p.m. Pit joins the last two weeks of rehearsal Show closes January 24th
Qualifications Required:
Tech, dress, and performances Play piano well enough to lead rehearsals and teach parts Available for the rehearsal window above Music duties Teach the vocal score (melody, harmony, rhythm, diction, dynamics, style) Accompany rehearsals on piano/keyboard Assess voices at auditions and advise on casting and part assignments Work with principals and ensemble; teach healthy, age-appropriate technique Keep vocals solid as staging and choreography are added Plan music rehearsal time with the director Support tech, dress, and performances Maintain musical quality through the run Collaboration Coordinate with the director on interpretation, priorities, and schedule Coordinate and communicate with the choreographer (counts, cutoffs, tempo, breath, dance numbers) Coordinate with the Pit Conductor on cues, tempo, transitions, vamps, cutoffs, and vocal/pit balance Help the cast adjust from piano rehearsals to full pit Listen in the house during sitzprobe, spacing, and tech Additional production support (as needed) Microphones and live sound (mic plot, check-in/out, placement, student operators, troubleshooting) Playbill / program copy and proofing Posters and promotional materials Hands-on help finishing set/props as needed Tech-week problem-solving
Preferred:
Prior music direction, vocal direction, accompanying, or music education experience Experience with high school / community musicals Experience working with a pit conductor and choreographer Experience with wireless mics or auditorium sound Candidate Requirements Additional Requirements Cover Letter
