Pianist / Organist Job Description Music is integral to the worship & spiritual life of St. Andrew Lutheran Church, Canyon Lake, Texas. We are seeking a gifted musician to help us shape meaningful, Christ-centered worship that gathers the community to encounter God's presence and sends them into daily life as disciples.

Skills and Qualifications:

Knowledge of piano, organ, and keyboard, including the ability to play hymns, liturgies, and appropriate special music. Ability to provide music with accurate pitch and rhythm. Knowledge of the Lutheran liturgy and of the Seasons of the Church Year. (preferred) Ability to work as a team with the church staff, Worship and Devotion Team, volunteers, instrumentalists, and choir members.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Coordinate with the pastor and choir director to identify, encourage, and incorporate the musical talents of the congregation, ensuring that all musical elements align with the church's mission and bring glory to God Provide piano/organ music for all Sunday services and other seasonal services of the church (i.e. Christmas, Advent, Lent, Easter, etc) and special services or events (Christmas programs, music programs, etc). Provide piano/organ music for weddings and funerals when available. The musician would have the right of first refusal for this. If unable to provide these services, inform the Pastor so a substitute may be found. Pianist/Organist will be compensated by the wedding party/family of funeral party when playing for weddings/funerals at a rate based on current church policy. Oversee tuning and maintenance of musical instruments. Accompany the choir and hand bell choir and other musical groups at worship services when needed. Rehearse the Psalm with the choir and arrive early enough before the service to rehearse for any accompaniment parts. Rehearsal may occasionally occur after the conclusion of the worship service.

Conditions of Employment:

This position is part-time. Hours can vary from 5-10 hrs / wk based on duties, the seasons of the church year, and responsibilities above. The pianist/organist shall be supervised by the Pastor while working collaboratively and maintaining mutual accountability with the Worship and Devotion Team. Annual performance reviews will be conducted. Salary will be commensurate with skills and experience.
