Customer Service/Support Specialist

Beaufort Memorial, a not-for-profit hospital founded in 1944 on the banks of the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway, is licensed for 201 beds (169 acute, 14 rehabilitation and 18 mental health). We are an acute-care hospital, a regional referral center and the largest medical facility between Savannah, Ga., and Charleston, S.C. Fully accredited by The Joint Commission, Beaufort Memorial boasts a dedicated, high-quality medical staff of nearly 230 board-certified or board-eligible providers. DESCRIPTION
Job Summary The Patient Financial Services (PFS) Customer Service / Support Specialist serves as the primary point of contact for patients, guarantors, and third parties regarding billing, payments, and account inquiries. This role supports the healthcare revenue cycle by ensuring accurate communication, resolving account issues, and delivering a positive patient financial experience.
  • Key Responsibilities
  • Respond to inbound and outbound calls related to patient accounts, billing statements, and insurance claims
  • Assist patients in person with billing questions, payment options, and account concerns
  • Explain charges, insurance coverage, benefits, and patient financial responsibilities clearly
  • Resolve billing discrepancies, payment issues, and account concerns
  • Process payments and assist patients with setting up payment plans
  • Update and maintain accurate patient account information in billing systems
  • Ensure compliance with HIPAA and organizational policies
  • Document all interactions thoroughly and accurately
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • 1-3 years of customer service experience (healthcare or billing preferred)
  • Basic knowledge of medical billing, insurance processes, or revenue cycle operations
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills
  • Proficiency with computers and standard office software
  • Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with medical billing, coding, or insurance verification
  • Familiarity with Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial insurance plans Key Skills & Competencies
