Phlebotomist Team Lead

Salary Range:
$16.00

00 to training new hires, assisting with scheduling, and helping provide high-quality care to patients. Draws and collects quality blood samples from patients and prepares those specimens for lab testing following established practices and procedures. Has direct contact with patients and creates an atmosphere of trust and confidence while explaining procedures to patients and drawing blood specimens in a skillful, safe and accurate manner. Requires on call rotation and monthly draws at assisted living facilities and EnerSys. Qualifications
Education/Experience:
Required:
High school diploma or equivalent (Education documentation required for CILA purposes) Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record
Preferred:
Previous phlebotomy experience Medical terminology experience

BLS certification required or must complete with in the first two weeks of employment Phlebotomy technician certification (PBT) through the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or other regulatory agency equivalent to the ASCP Responsibilities Serves as the day-to-day team lead for phlebotomy staff by coordinating workflow, providing real-time problem solving, and ensuring efficient, high-quality patient care. Supports staff performance through mentoring and training, fosters a positive team culture, and partners with leadership to promote quality, compliance, and smooth daily operations. Collects blood and various non-blood specimens for analysis through various procedures This includes, but is not limited to blood draws, capillary sticks, kit draws, urine, throat, nasopharyngeal swabbing, legal blood alcohols, urine drug screens, breath alcohols, hair drug screen collections and oral fluids. Educates patients on the proper instructions for collecting and transporting stool specimens, urine collections and/or other bodily fluids. Perform verification of patient demographic info and signing of the Conditions of Admission (COA). Verify tubes were labeled in the patient's presence and that the name on the label is correct. Responsible for obtaining an Advanced Beneficiary Notice (ABN) when applicable on Medicare patients. Responsible for completing all data entry requirements accurately including data entry of patient registration, pulling electronic orders from database. Performs specimen processing including accessioning, labeling, centrifuging, and splitting of all sample types per test requirements of ordered tests. Transporting of STAT/time sensitive samples to the Hospital Lab without interfering with specimen integrity. Administer oral solutions according to established training. Exhibit professional and courteous presence towards patients, co-workers, and visitors. Perform departmental-related clerical duties when assigned such as data entry, inventory, stock supplies, Fax-Q and answering of phone. Research test/client information on all non HMC/HMG client orders and verify all written orders are completed with all the client/patient information, scanning in all non-electronic Conditions of Admissions. Ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations regarding patient privacy and confidentiality. Maintain all appropriate phlebotomy logs in a timely manner and temperature logs. Documents daily Patient wait times.

Infection Control:
This position will include initial and ongoing training in dealing with infection control. Training could include, but is not limited to, blood-borne pathogens, bodily fluids, and biohazardous materials, as it applies to your daily work environment.
