Job Description
The Prevention Specialist works to raise awareness in the community of the prevalence and impact of child abuse. Also, educating the community about the steps to prevent, recognize and respond effectively to child abuse. EDUCATION and
EXPERIENCE
1) Bachelor's degree required in social work, human services, education, criminal justice or related field. 2) Previous experience working with children and families, and children of varying ages and cultures, preferred. 3) Knowledge of group dynamics and previous experience facilitating a group or experience public speaking preferred. 4) An understanding of trauma informed care, multiculturalism, family systems and knowledge of community resources preferred.QUALIFICATIONS
1) Ability to relate to staff in a professional manner 2) Positive cooperative attitude. 3) Willingness to serve as an advocate for children's rights. 4) Willingness to travel within Kankakee and Iroquois Counties and, at times, around the State of Illinois. 5) Possess a valid driver's license in the State of Illinois. 6) Access to a vehicle in good mechanical condition and maintain insurance. 7) Ability to communicate and/or interact effectively with children, adolescents, and adults receiving services through Child Network. 8) Experience in high stress environments and utilization of self-care practices. 9) Bilingual/Bicultural (English and Spanish) preferred. 10) Knowledge of community resources and experience with referral systems. 11) Must perform job duties independently, proactively, and with a variety of people in a team setting requiring significant self-direction/self-management skills and the ability to be flexible in an unstructured environment. 12) Outstanding written and verbal communication skills and effective interpersonal and collaborative skills. 13) Knowledge of Microsoft Office products and experience in using data collection platforms. 14) Must be willing to work outside normal hours including nights and/or weekends when necessary. 15) Must pass a thorough criminal background investigation.RESPONSIBILITIES
1) Deliver evidenced-based prevention education programs to community members. 2) Support community-wide prevention and outreach efforts with key organizations/stakeholders. 3) Develop and implement a strategic outreach and engagement plan for prevention education in both Kankakee and Iroquois counties. 4) Assess and analyze outreach and prevention education programs for effectiveness and program success. 5) Create targeted campaigns and curriculums to address trends and community needs utilizing evidenced based resources. 6) Have an essential understanding of National Children's Alliance standards and implementation of best practices. 7) Compile and complete all required forms, online database entries, and grant reports. 8) Coordinate with other community-based organizations as needed. 9) Keep statistical client data necessary for appropriate records and reports. Maintain case files with attention to details and timeliness. 10) Consistently demonstrate professional behaviors and leadership skills that are in support of the vision, mission, and philosophy of Child Network at both the organizational and personal level. 11) Follow agency policies and procedures. 12) Maintain credibility and integrity of organization. 13) Must have ability and flexibility to work outside normal working hours when needed. 14) Perform all other duties as assigned.
