Job Description

SUMMARY:
This full-time, exempt, 211-day position, provides both building and instructional leadership to staff and is responsible for student and staff safety and welfare. This position ensures a pleasant and effective educational atmosphere while providing discipline as necessary and enforcing school policy.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Other duties may be assigned.
  • Serves as administrative head of the school, overseeing the operation of the elementary school.
  • Manages all building staff, completing performance appraisals; resolving staff problems; and providing in-service training.
  • Provides general supervision of students to encourage each individual to perform at their highest level.
  • Supervises extracurricular activities.
  • Coordinates building level local and state assessments.
  • Prepares and manages the school budget.
  • Coordinates in the development of the master teaching and class schedule by assigning teachers to classrooms and students to classes.
  • Assesses the need for programs and classes.
  • Maintains open communication among parents, parent groups, school volunteers, and outside stakeholders.
  • Provides support to teachers, students, and parents.
  • Oversees and reports to staff and the community on the accreditation process.
  • Implements policy and procedural changes from the board of education, state agencies, and federal agencies at the building level.
  • Implements the district's Success Plan.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the district's policies and procedures, following all applicable laws. Supervisory responsibilities include interviewing and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees and students; addressing complaints; and resolving problems.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

EXPERIENCE
  • Master's degree in educational administration
  • Minimum five years teaching and/or administrative experience required
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
  • Kansas teaching certificate with Building Leadership endorsement
LANGUAGE SKILLS
  • To read, analyze, and interpret periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations.
  • To effectively write reports and correspondence.
  • To respond to common inquiries/complaints from students, parents, or members of staff.
  • To effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of administrators, staff, and students.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
To calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
REASONING ABILITY
To define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. OTHER SKILLS and/or

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The demands of extended work days (coverage of building activities and extracurricular activities, etc.) require a high level of physical stamina. This job requires the ability to handle and balance multiple demands at the same time.
