Job Description
Role Overview We're seeking a thoughtful, engaging educator to work closely with two high-potential high school students in a fully personalized, one-on-one learning environment. This role is designed as a two-year reset and rebuild—redoing junior year and guiding both students through a successful senior year with the goal of preparing them for college and beyond. This is not a traditional teaching role. It's an opportunity to step into a deeply relational, high-impact position where your ability to connect, challenge, and guide matters just as much as your academic expertise. You'll help both students rebuild confidence, develop independence, and re-engage with learning in a way that feels meaningful and relevant to their lives. Compensation for this role is $48,000-$55,000 (W2) with the option for health insurance. You'll have true autonomy, a two-year runway to do your best work, ongoing relationships with the Thrive Education Partners team, and the rare chance to make a lasting difference in two students' lives at exactly the right moment. Student Profile You'll be working with twin 16-year-old boys who are very young for their grade and will be redoing junior year as part of a thoughtful reset. One student is highly intelligent, curious, and deeply passionate about topics like mixed martial arts, cars, and marketing—but struggles with follow-through, impulsivity, and academic engagement. He benefits from strong relationships, clear structure, and consistent accountability, and needs support building confidence, emotional regulation, and decision-making skills. He is currently working with a neuropsychologist, whose assessment has confirmed that his cognitive reasoning becomes significantly impaired under stress or overwhelm. This is a clinically documented dynamic, not simply a motivational issue, and the right teacher will understand the difference. He needs someone who can stay steady when he shuts down and who earns his respect through authenticity, not authority. The other student is hardworking, steady, and deeply motivated. He has worked hard to overcome earlier academic challenges and brings strong effort and perseverance, but needs help translating that effort into stronger academic outcomes. He would benefit from support with learning strategies, efficiency, and confidence in his abilities.
He has a clear and specific career interest in sports management, and responds best to project-based, applied learning with a tangible product. He previously held a strong IEP (reading-focused) that was disrupted during a family relocation; some of that academic language and reading support work may still be relevant. A teacher who can meet him where he is—and help him see that his effort is working—will unlock a student who is genuinely motivated to succeed. Both students have ADHD and benefit from structure, routine, and individualized support. The family is highly engaged, values strong communication, and is committed to creating a supportive environment where both boys can thrive. They are well-traveled and sports-focused, with an active family life that shapes the schedule and the culture of this role. For the right teacher, this is a family that will show up as genuine partners. What You'll Do Provide daily, in-person instruction across core academic subjects (math, English, science, history) Design and adapt curriculum in collaboration with the Thrive team, tailoring instruction to each student's needs Integrate interest-based learning (e.g., business, sports management, marketing) to increase engagement and real-world relevance Deliver highly individualized instruction, balancing time between both students in a 1:1 format Build strong, trust-based relationships that foster buy-in, motivation, and accountability Establish clear routines and structures that support executive functioning, focus, and follow-through Coach students in time management, organization, and independent work habits Support emotional regulation and decision-making, particularly during moments of stress or resistance Track progress and adjust instruction based on ongoing observation and assessment Communicate regularly with parents and the Thrive team to ensure alignment and progress What Makes Someone Successful You can build genuine trust with teenagers—not by being their friend, but by being real with them. You're the kind of person a 16-year-old will actually open up to, and you can be straight with them in return. Both students independently named their favorite teacher ever as someone who was "authentic, nonjudgmental, and would talk to them straight about anything." You are firm and consistent , able to hold boundaries and follow through without becoming rigid or transactional You bring energy and presence to your work—you are not passive, and you don't "go through the motions" You are comfortable balancing accountability with empathy , especially with students who may resist or shut down You are highly organized and able to manage time effectively across two students with different needs You are adaptable and creative, able to think beyond traditional school structures and design meaningful learning experiences You are comfortable working with students who have ADHD, learning differences, or documented neuropsychological profiles—and you understand that these require genuine instructional adaptation, not just patience. A background that includes coaching, counseling, or special education alongside academic expertise could be a meaningful asset in this role You are ready to operate with real support behind you—this role includes curriculum design, instructional planning, and ongoing advisory from the Thrive team. You won't be building the program alone
