Job description Description 1.0 INTRODUCTION 1.1 The purpose of this standard procedure is to outline the duties, responsibilities, authority, reporting relationships, and measures of performance for the position of Registered Nurse for PPEC (Prescribed Pediatric Extended Care) 2.0 BASIC
FUNCTION 2.1
The basic function of the Registered Nurse for PPEC is to provide nursing and developmental stimulation for children/youth. Management of assessments, medications, and medical procedures required for children. 3.0
REQUIREMENTS:

Required:
Registered Nurse licensed in the state of Kentucky. 3.2
Experience :
A minimum of 1 years experience in pediatric nursing is preferred. 3.3
Skill, Knowledge and Abilities:
Ability to provide nursing care and related activities under the direction of the nursing director based on physician orders and the individual child's protocol of care. Provide nursing care and related services using the process of assessment, diagnosis, outcome identification, planning, implementation, and evaluation. Educate, instruct, and train parents/guardians/caregivers regarding child's health care and treatment. Collaborate with other staff in the program to foster age-appropriate self care and fine/gross motor, language/literacy, and social/emotional development. Supervise and provide daily care services to address basic needs. Attend and complete all training required by Easterseals West Kentucky and regulatory compliance agencies, including CPR/First Aid. Demonstrate accuracy, timeliness, and a commitment to quality, safety, and a healthy, clean, and orderly environment in compliance with applicable policies, procedures, regulations, licensing, certification, and accreditation standards. 3.4
Physical:
Ability to drive to locations, physically observe and perform all nursing care operations, listen and actively participate in communicating effectively with employees, customers and public. Ability to bend, reach, grasp, manipulate objects, pull/push, stoop, kneel, crouch, twist, and lift and/or carry 20 pounds or exert up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 50 pounds of force occasionally to move objects or human bodies, with or without the use of adaptive equipment. 3.5
Mental:
Basic statistical and analytical business math skills, as well as good reading, writing and spelling ability to communicate clearly and effectively in the English language on all technical and business levels and basic computer knowledge. 3.6
Working Conditions:
Work is performed with children with special needs/disabilities in PPEC classrooms in The Lily Pad building, on the grounds, and in the community. Desktop and floor work are required. Also, some travel to and from program and referring agencies, and to individuals' residences and marketing opportunities may be involved. 4.0 REPORTING
RELATIONSHIPS 4.1
The Registered Nurse of PPEC will report directly to the Director of Nursing. 4.2 The following PPEC positions report directly to the
Registered Nurse of PPEC:
4.2.1 Certified Nursing Assistant 4.2.2 LPN Nurses 4.2.3 Child Development Assistants 4.2.4 Early Childhood Educators 5.0 AUTHORITY 5.1 To support the delivery of a best nursing practice day health care program. 5.2 To provide nursing care and related services. 5.3 To oversee personnel reporting to this position. 5.4 To keep track of equipment, materials, operating supplies and report quantities to director of nursing. 6.0 RESPONSIBILITIES 6.1 Provide individualized, holistic, effective, patient centered, and efficient nursing care using the nursing processes of assessment, diagnosis, outcome identification, planning, implementation, and evaluation. 6.2 Participate in preadmission planning and protocol of care development. 6.3 Maintain child's record in accordance with the Lily Pad and Easter Seals West Kentucky policies and procedures. 6.4 Store and lock all medications in designated location, narcotics under double locks. 6.5 Maintain open communication with all disciplines including but not limited to : director of nursing, medical director, physicians, therapists. 6.6 Comply with acceptable treatment planning and protocols of nursing care. 6.7 Support and enforce all company policies and procedures. 6.8 Follow written policies, regulations, and laws regarding the reporting of abuse, neglect, or exploitation of children. 6.9 Maintain clean, orderly environment, including compliance with all safety and health regulations. 6.10 Monitor vital signs and weight of the individuals served. 6.11 Track and maintain supplies. 6.12 Participate in monthly staff development programs to maintain quality and up to date childcare. 6.13 Monitor safety of children at The Lily Pad. 6.15 Administer and document medications and observe for possible adverse reactions 6.16 Provide emergency care. 6.17 Provide supervision and guidance to classroom staff concerning the promotion of child health and development. 6.18 Report staff disciplinary issues. 6.19 Provide any other direct nursing services requiring skilled care or that may be performed safely in the PPEC facility. 6.20 Direct work of volunteers. 6.21 Control operational costs and expenses by effective utilizing (non-wasteful) supplies in the day-to-day operations of the program. 6.22 Report all incidences that could jeopardize current or future health or safety of children in The Lily Pad. 6.23 Monitor the health status of children upon arrival and periodically throughout the day as defined in child's protocol of care and as needed. 6.24 Provide prompt clinical attention to children that exhibit a change in health condition or signs of illness or injury and notify Director of Nursing of any changes or concerns. 6.25 Respond to medical emergencies, including administering CPR, AED, oxygen, medication for anaphylaxis, first aid, and other emergency nursing response services. 6.26 Communicate health and safety needs of children to the Director of Nursing or designee and other caregivers. 6.27 Provide catheterization and routine catheter care per patient protocol provided in the individual protocol of care. 6.28 Provide central line care per patient protocol provided in the individual protocol of care. 6.29 Provide colostomy/ostomy care per protocol provided in the individual protocol of care. 6.30 Provide gastrostomy or nasal gastric feedings per protocol provided in the individual protocol of care. 6.31 Monitor solid/fluid intake and output on all children assigned throughout the day. 6.32 Provide inhalation treatment and/or other respiratory care services including but not limited to: tracheostomy care, tracheostomy suctioning, oxygen administration, and nasal suctioning. 6.33 Monitor blood glucose as ordered in the individual protocol of care and as needed. 6.34 Provide positive postural drainage and CPT vest treatments as ordered in the protocol of care and as needed. 6.35 Use and document appropriate pain assessment tools based on developmental age and protocol. 6.36 Provide wound care as according to individual protocol of care. 6.37 Provide other prescribed nursing services as identified on the individual protocol of care. 6.38 Assess, monitor, and document the effects of prescribed nursing therapies. 6.39 Document medications, treatments, illnesses, and injuries on individual clinical records, incident reports, and nurses' notes. 6.40 Inform the nursing director of the results of nursing and other therapeutic interventions. 6.41 Provide information to the PPEC nursing director for periodic review and updates to each child's protocol of care. 6.42 Perform other duties as assigned. 7.0 PRINCIPAL
DUTIES 7.1
Maintain a safe and healthy environment in compliance with licensing standards. 7.2 Engage in ongoing professional activities and show evidence of professional growth resulting from the implementation of professional growth plan. 7.3 Adhere to all dress code standards outlined in the Dress Code Policy. 7.4 Work with management to ensure company policy is followed. 7.5 Attend meetings concerning individuals with the referring agencies. 7.7 Evaluate results of overall operations regularly and systematically, reporting the results to the Director of Nursing of
PPEC. 7.8
Complete any other duties assigned by the Director of Nursing. 7.9 Upon consultation with the Director of Nursing of PPEC to counsel, recommend termination, suggest for hire, transfer and evaluate employees reporting directly to this position. Requirements 3.0
