The Probation and Parole Officer is responsible for supervising and investigating criminal offenders through the provision of probation, parole, and pardon assigned to the district office. Making Accurate Judgments:

Three years of experience in corrections or law enforcement; OR Three years of continuous active military duty (all Military Occupational Specialties apply); OR Six years of full-time experience in any field; OR A bachelor's degree.

EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION

Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience towards the six years of full-time work experience in any field. The maximum substitution allowed is 120 semester hours which substitutes for a maximum of four years of experience in any field.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

An applicant who has been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence or a felony, or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified until relief from the disabilities imposed by state and federal laws is granted. Possession of a current Louisiana driver's license. This position requires the incumbent to handle and carry firearms. Willingness and ability to attain a Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certification. Job Duties:

Supervise felony and misdemeanor offenders through counseling, monitoring, and referrals to community resources that support rehabilitation and successful reintegration. Enforce conditions of probation and parole by managing compliance, conducting investigations, and handling all aspects of the violation process. Conduct social background investigations and prepare recommendations and reports for courts, parole and pardon boards, and other criminal justice officials. Conduct arrests, transport violators, and participate in probable cause, revocation, and disciplinary hearings. Investigate, collect, and disburse restitution, supervision fees, fines, court costs, and other criminal justice-related payments. Coordinate offender placement in treatment, vocational rehabilitation, and mental health programs while providing crisis intervention and emergency support services. Administer drug testing, supervise parolee community service work, and ensure compliance with American Correctional Association (ACA) standards and agency policies. Assist with jail and contract compliance audits for facilities and Community Rehabilitation Centers (CRCs), including applying Pressure Point Control Tactics (PPCT) and maintaining institutional safety and security.

Position-Specific Details:

Appointment Type :

Probational or Promotion of a permanent, classified employee of the Louisiana State Government. Current permanent status classified state employees may be required to accept a probational appointment if accepted. An employee selected for a promotion may be required to serve a trial detail prior to being permanently promoted. This posting may also be used to fill a vacancy as a temporary job appointment. If filled as a temporary job appointment, should a permanent position become available, the employee may be converted to a probational appointment.

Career Progression:

This position may be filled as a Probation and Parole Officer 1, 2, or 3, depending on the level of experience of the selected applicant.

Special Entrance Rates:

The Probation and Parole Officer 1 -Adult has a Special Entrance Rate of $1,872.00 Bi-weekly. The Probation and Parole Officer 2-Adult has a Special Entrance Rate of $2,003.20 Bi-weekly. The Probation and Parole Officer 3-Adult has a Special Entrance Rate of $2,213.60 Bi-weekly.
