This position provides approprie developmental care and instruction for children and youth ranging in age from 6 weeks to 18 years in Child and Youth Programs (CYP). The duties of this position are developmental in nure and designed to provide experience and training to qualify for mandory advancement to higher level positions leading to the full performance position. The incumbent serves as a manded reporter as prescribed by local policy in the case of suspected incidences of child abuse and neglect.MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Assists in implementing planned, developmentally approprie activities, schedules, and routines for children/youth using prepared or developed curriculum, activity plans, and merials which includes group and individual activities. Helps prepare, arrange, and maintain indoor and outdoor activity areas and merials to accommode daily schedules and support development of children. Observes and actively participes in maintaining safe and healthy environments to minimize risk to children. Helps cree and assemble play merials (mixing paint and play dough, and props for dramic plays and equipment for sports activities, etc.). Contributes to the list of needed supplies and equipment for submission to the supervisor. Assists with tending to the developmental needs of children/youth in assigned area, including relionship building. Helps establish a program environment th promotes positive child interactions with other children and adults. Builds relionships with children and families. Interacts with children and youth using approved child and youth guidance and development techniques. Interacts professionally with employees, families, and local installion command. Engages in positive, supportive, and developmentally approprie interactions with children, youth, and families. Works cooperively as a member of a team and exhibits strong interpersonal skills with children, youth, and adults.SUPERVISION OF CHILDREN
: Ensures the supervision, accountability, and oversight of program participants in compliance with the Department of War (DoW), United Stes Marine Corps (USMC) and local installion policies, standards, and guidance. Assures staff-child rios are always maintained in assigned classroom/program area. Maintains awareness and accountability for the whereabouts and safety of all children and youth, aged 6 weeks to 18 years, within the assigned group. Assists with conducting required supervision and accountability measures and practices. Ensures children and youth (as applicable) depart with authorized person according to written parental instructions. Assists in supervising children and youth during daily schedule of indoor and outdoor activities, on field trips, outings, and during special events. Maintains communicion with other employees to request assistance, aid, and report challenges. Responds to minor illness or injury, renders aid as needed, and completes and submits accident/incident report documention. Observes program participants for signs th may indice illness, abuse or neglect and reports as directed. Helps arrange for or serve approprie snacks or meals where applicable.CHILDREN WITH DISABILITIES AND OTHER IDENTIFIED NEEDS
: Cares for children and youth with special needs as directed by the supervisor or other higher graded employee. Ensures inclusive programming for children and youth with special needs is implemented within current policy. Follows all physician-prescribed medicions and individualized care instructions, such as those for special diets, feeding procedures, assistive devices, and other needs for special care and tention. Adheres to special instructions provided by parents and multidisciplinary Inclusion Action Teams (IAT) such as medicion administrion, acute health reled conditions, behavior management, and special dietary restrictions or needs. Administers medicions and basic care items according to prescribed procedures and CYP medical directives.COMPLIANCE
: Assists in achieving and maintaining DoW certificion and nional accredition, where applicable. Complies with laws, policies, and regulions applicable to DoW CY programs. Identifies and responds to emergency situions including evacuions, child/youth illness, and physical and emotional needs. Notifies supervisor of health, fire, and safety compliance concerns. EVALUATIONS
Qualificions Must complete all DoW and Service training requirements within the specified time including oriention, initial, and annual ongoing training requirements, and any required certificions. Must maintain current CPR and First Aid certificions. Be able to lift and carry children and objects up to 45lbs independently and over 45lbs with assistance. Must be able to communice effectively in English, both orally and in writing. Must be least 18 years of age and possess a high school diploma (or equivalent). Prior experience working with children and/or youth preferred. This position has been identified as having regular contact with children under the age of 18. In accordance with Section 231 of the Crime Control Act of 1990 (Public Law 101-647 codified 34 U.S.C. § 20351) and DoD Instruction 1402.05, favorably adjudiced background checks are required. Position is subject to immunizion requirements as a condition of employment for working with children and youth. Employee is required to obtain approprie immunizion against communicable diseases in accordance with recommendions from the Advisory committee on Immunizion Practices (ACIP), which includes the influenza vaccine. Must pass a pre-employment physical and subsequent physical, thereafter, provide evidence of immunizion and be free from communicable disease.Note :
This position is identified as a Test Designed Position (TDP). The incumbent is subject to random drug testing because duties must be performed with a high level of productivity, reliability and judgment to prevent adversely affecting personnel safety, and causing risk/damage to government property, and/or significant adverse impact to day-to-day operions.
