Job Description

Psychiatric/Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) Western Youth Services is a leading expert in children's mental health and wellness solutions. As a hub of children's mental health in Orange County, we've been providing services and programs for our community for over 50 years. The Psychiatric/Mental Health Nurse Practitioner performs comprehensive psychiatric evaluations, diagnosis, medication management, evaluation, and on-going treatment of clients with mental health conditions. This role practices independently under California NP regulations (103/104 status) and does not require supervision by a psychiatrist. The PMHNP ensures that all medical services comply with applicable legal, regulatory, and professional standards while supporting the agency's clinical and operational goals. This is a f ull‑time, in‑person position . The PMHNP provides services at Western Youth Services clinic locations and may travel between sites based on operational needs, client coverage, or staffing requirements.
Responsibilities:
Conduct comprehensive psychiatric, psychosocial, and developmental assessments. Diagnose and treat episodic and chronic psychiatric conditions in children and adolescents Provide medication management, including prescribing controlled substances in compliance with DEA and state regulations. Develop, implement, and monitor individualized treatment plans. Perform ongoing evaluation of treatment effectiveness and adjust plans as clinically indicated. Maintain accurate, timely, and compliant documentation, including assessments, progress notes, medication consent forms, medication orders, and managed care outpatient treatment reports. Collaborate with multidisciplinary treatment teams and participate in clinical case discussions. Provide education to clients, families, and staff as appropriate. Ensure continuity of care through referrals and coordination with internal and external providers. Participate in quality improvement initiatives, professional development, and team meetings. Performs other related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications:
Master's degree or higher in Nursing. Current Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) certification. Active, unrestricted California Nurse Practitioner license. Independent practice authority (California 103/104 status) Minimum 2-3 years of psychiatric NP experience, preferably in outpatient health settings. Demonstrated experience working with children, adolescents, and families. Current DEA Registration with authority to prescribe controlled substances. Current CPR certification. Strong knowledge of psychopharmacology, psychiatric assessment, and evidence -based treatment. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Proficiency with electronic health records (EHR) and standard office software. Knowledge of Trauma Informed Care principles strongly preferred.

Compensation :
Starting at $147,000 annually , commensurate with experience and qualifications.
