Public Information Officer (PIO) will report to the Mayor and serve as the primary communication link between the City of Arcola and the public. The PIO is responsible for managing public communications, media relations, community outreach, and the dissemination of accurate information to residents, stakeholders, and news outlets. sESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Prepare and distribute press releases, public notices, newsletters, and official statements. Serve as the organization's spokesperson and media contact. Manage and update the organization's website and social media accounts. Coordinate public awareness campaigns, community engagement initiatives, and special events. Respond to media inquiries and public information requests in a timely manner. Develop communication materials including flyers, presentations, speeches, and announcements. Monitor news coverage and public feedback regarding the organization. Assist with emergency communication efforts during crises or disasters. Maintain brand consistency and professional public image standards. Collaborate with departments to gather and communicate accurate information to the public. sEDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, or a related field preferred. Experience in public relations, communications, media relations, or government communications preferred. Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills. Knowledge of social media management and digital communication platforms. Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and graphic/content creation software is preferred. sSKILLS AND ABILITIES
Excellent public speaking and presentation skills. Strong organizational and project management abilities. Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism. Skilled in crisis communication and problem-solving. Ability to establish positive relationships with media, staff, and the community. sPHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
This position typically operates in an office environment but may require attendance at community events, meetings, emergency response situations, and after-hours functions. The position is subject to potential conflict and/or hostility from the public; therefore, effective interpersonal skills and the ability to speak and hear are required. s Position Open Until Filled.
