Job Title:
Quality Supervisor Job Description The Quality Supervisor leads the day-to-day operations of the Quality Assurance (QA) and Food Safety & Quality Assurance (FSQA) functions, ensuring compliance with food safety programs, customer requirements, and regulatory standards. This role supports the development and implementation of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for the Food Safety Plan, serves as backup SQF Practitioner, and provides hands-on leadership to the FSQA team. The Quality Supervisor plays a key role in environmental monitoring, sanitation verification, audits, and continuous improvement of food quality and safety in a growing food manufacturing environment. Responsibilities Support the development, implementation, and ongoing improvement of SOPs for the Food Safety Plan. Serve as backup SQF Practitioner, supporting the maintenance and execution of SQF and other GFSI-recognized programs. Oversee daily QA department operations, ensuring Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) compliance and effective QA presence on the production floor. Monitor production floor activities and provide troubleshooting support for quality and food safety issues. Manage customer complaints by coordinating internal investigations, identifying root causes, implementing corrective actions, and providing timely responses. Oversee environmental monitoring programs to ensure compliance with customer requirements and product specifications. Ensure the FSQA team completes all sanitation, microbiological, and allergen inspections accurately and on schedule. Analyze quality, sanitation, and environmental monitoring data to identify trends and report key findings to management. Verify daily sanitation and janitorial work, ensuring proper cleaning procedures are followed and documented. Collaborate closely with Production, Maintenance, and Quality teams to support smooth and compliant product changeovers. Ensure proper use and control of color-coded tools, sanitation chemicals, and related supplies, and request additional supplies as needed. Maintain a safe work environment by following and enforcing safety procedures, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE), lockout/tagout (LOTO), and adherence to Safety Data Sheets (SDS). Ensure adequate FSQA coverage during absences and oversee execution of the Master Sanitation Schedule. Assist with validation projects for sanitation procedures and processing line clean-in-place (CIP) and passivation activities. Assist in the development, implementation, and maintenance of Food Safety Programs, including HACCP and related prerequisite programs. Assist with internal and external audits, including GFSI and SQF audits, and support preparation, execution, and follow-up of audit activities. Conduct performance reviews for FSQA Leads and oversee the work, performance, and scheduling of team members. Provide coaching, guidance, and day-to-day supervision to FSQA Leads and technicians to build leadership and technical capability within the team. Perform other related duties as needed to support overall food quality, safety, and operational efficiency. Essential Skills 2-3 years of Quality Assurance experience within the food, beverage, or nutraceutical industry. Bachelor's degree in a scientific discipline (such as Food Science, Microbiology, Chemistry, or a related field). Practical experience with HACCP programs and their application in a food manufacturing environment. Strong knowledge of Food Safety Programs and related regulatory and customer requirements. Quality assurance experience specifically focused on food quality and food safety systems. Strong communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across Production, Maintenance, and Quality teams. Strong attention to detail, particularly in documentation, audits, and data review. Demonstrated ability to manage and resolve customer complaints through investigation and corrective actions. Experience supervising or leading QA, FSQA, or sanitation personnel in a manufacturing setting. Ability to interpret and apply GMPs, sanitation standards, and environmental monitoring requirements. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience with audits, including GFSI or SQF audits, is a significant plus. Experience working within SQF-certified or other GFSI-recognized quality and food safety schemes. Exposure to environmental monitoring programs and allergen control in food manufacturing. Experience supporting or executing validation projects for sanitation procedures and CIP/passivation. Ability to analyze data trends and present key findings and recommendations to management. Interest in growing leadership skills within food quality and safety. Capability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, growing food manufacturing environment. Work Environment This role is based in a growing food manufacturing facility located in Ontario, CA. The typical schedule is Tuesday through Sunday from 12:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., supporting afternoon and evening operations. The Quality Supervisor directly manages two leads (one sanitation lead and one quality lead) and oversees additional technicians. The environment includes active production lines, sanitation activities, and routine environmental monitoring, requiring consistent adherence to GMPs, food safety protocols, and safety procedures such as the use of personal protective equipment (PPE), lockout/tagout (LOTO), and compliance with Safety Data Sheets (SDS). Work is primarily on the production floor and in QA/FSQA areas, involving regular interaction with Production, Maintenance, and Quality teams to support product changeovers, sanitation, and audit readiness. The facility offers opportunities to develop and grow leadership skills within food quality and safety as part of a dynamic and expanding operation. Job Type & Location This is a Permanent position based out of Ontario, CA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $75000.00 - $75000.00/yr.
