Job Description

Rail Safety Specialist/Manager Why Work at SDAC? At SDAC, safety is more than a requirement — it's part of how we operate every day. Our Rail Division works in demanding environments where strong leadership, accountability, and attention to detail matter. We're looking for a safety professional who can help protect our crews, support operations, and build a strong safety culture across active rail projects. Depending on experience, this role may be hired as a Rail Safety Specialist or Rail Safety Manager. What You'll Be Doing Support and enforce rail safety programs and procedures Ensure compliance with FRA, OSHA, and railroad safety regulations Conduct jobsite inspections, audits, and hazard assessments Monitor work activities around active rail operations and heavy equipment Lead safety meetings, toolbox talks, and job briefings Investigate incidents, accidents, and near-misses and prepare reports Track corrective actions and support continuous improvement efforts Maintain safety records, inspection logs, and training documentation Coordinate with rail operators, flaggers, supervisors, and project teams Support onboarding and safety orientation for employees and subcontractors Promote safe work practices and strong field communication What We're Looking For 3+ years of safety experience in rail, construction, or heavy industrial environments Rail safety experience strongly preferred Working knowledge of FRA regulations and roadway worker protection requirements OSHA 30 certification required Rail certifications such as RWP, Track Safety, or equivalent preferred First Aid/CPR certification preferred Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills Experience conducting inspections and incident investigations Work Environment & Physical Requirements (With or without reasonable accommodation) Work on and around active railroad tracks and heavy equipment Walk long distances on uneven terrain and ballast Lift up to 50 lbs Climb, bend, and perform physical tasks outdoors Work in varying weather conditions and active construction environments SDAC is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
