The Literacy Intervention AmeriCorps Member leads the day-to-day aspects of Reading Partners' service delivery in reading centers, including managing reading center operations, overseeing volunteers, and generally ensuring effective program delivery. The Literacy Intervention AmeriCorps Member is also responsible for representing Reading Partners as the primary on-site contact for school staff as well as in the community. The Literacy Intervention AmeriCorps Member will also regularly participate in directly tutoring students.Commitment & Service Term:
AmeriCorps members serve full-time or part-time, in-person, from August 2026 to June 2027 , committing to a service term of 1700+ hours (full-time) or 900+ hours (part-time). All AmeriCorps positions are Monday through Friday, with schedules generally running from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM, averaging 8.5+ hours per day for full-time service. Part-time service times may vary by region. AmeriCorps members understand that , not a job, and you are committed to completing your full term of service.Training & Professional Development:
All members receive intensive training at the start of service, as well as ongoing training and professional development throughout the term. Training may be conducted at a Reading Partners office or at school/partner sites across the region.Key Responsibilities:
Program Coordination & Operations Lead the daily operations of Reading Partners' tutoring programs at one or multiple reading centers in schools, community centers, or other partner sites. Serve as the primary on-site representative to school staff and administrators, ensuring that the program meets site needs and aligns with student goals. Coordinate schedules and facilitate program logistics to ensure smooth, efficient operations. Provide technical support for tutors and students, troubleshoot technology issues. Organize and maintain reading centers, including curriculum materials, equipment, and technology, ensuring the space is adequately equipped and functional. Sort donated books to support literacy and engagement initiatives, ensuring donations are properly organized and ready for distribution. This includes lifting and moving boxes of books and materials as necessary. Tutoring & Student Support Provide direct tutoring and support to students, in 1:1 or small group settings, providing individualized literacy strategies to meet student learning needs while ensuring high-quality instruction at all times. Manage student and tutor data and records, track progress, and administer assessments to ensure literacy goals are met. Monitor student progress to ensure alignment with literacy goals, adjusting strategies as necessary to meet individual student needs. Maintain a consistent presence in the reading center to encourage student attendance and engagement, fostering a positive environment and a sense of belonging within the school community. Chaperone students as they move between the classroom and reading centers, ensuring students transition safely and on time. This includes monitoring student locations, providing necessary supervision, and being a reliable, positive adult presence. Volunteer Management Build and maintain positive relationships with students, caregivers, volunteers, and school staff to create a collaborative and welcoming tutoring environment. Oversee volunteer tutors, ensuring program policies are followed, providing training, evaluating effectiveness, and resolving conflicts. Serve as a model tutor for volunteer tutors, coaching and providing feedback to help them improve their tutoring techniques. Lead volunteer engagement efforts by supporting and motivating tutors, ensuring they have the resources and guidance to succeed. Support volunteers with technical issues, ensuring a seamless and valuable experience. Relationship Management & Communication Forge and maintain strong relationships with students, families, and volunteers, creating a supportive and inclusive tutoring environment. Collaborate closely with volunteers, other AmeriCorps members, and regional and school staff to ensure daily operations run smoothly and the program remains effective. Attend all team meetings Community Engagement Represent Reading Partners and AmeriCorps in the community and in collaborative initiatives to strengthen local support networks, sharing the impact of your service experience to inspire others and contribute to the collective narrative of positive change in literacy education. Participate in community service projects throughout your service term, including, but not limited to, MLK Day and 9/11 Day of Service.Eligibility:
Possess a high school diploma or GED Hold US Citizenship or Permanent Resident Status Be at least 18-years old at the beginning of your service Have not completed more than four (4) terms withAmeriCorps Qualifications:
Root your service in our Strong attention to detail and manage competing priorities effectively Are open to learning technology systems like Salesforce, Google Apps, and Zoom Are able to both collaborate in a team environment and work independently Bonus points if you are an AmeriCorps, Peace Corps, or other national service alum/alumna; and/or have experience volunteering with community-based or education programsBenefits:
Reading Partners offers a supportive culture, intensive training at the start of your service, and ongoing professional development and coaching. AmeriCorps members receive a twice monthly living allowance stipend, dependent on the region Living stipend amount by region (paid twice monthly, •pre-tax)Full-time:
$1,404.55 |Part-time:
$772.50 Segal Education Award of $3,697.50 for part-time or $7,395 for full-time after successfully completing your service term Public transportation reimbursement of $132/month Medical, dental, and vision coverage at no monthly cost to you Child care assistance available through AmeriCorps for those who qualify You may be eligible for student loan forbearance on federal loansOther Considerations:
AmeriCorps members must live within commuting distance and have access to reliable transportation on a daily basis, including public transportation Due to the changing nature of serving in public education, AmeriCorps members may be asked to transition to another Reading Partners AmeriCorps position in the same region Members inNorth Texas:
In the event of a local, state, or federal disaster declaration, AmeriCorps members may be asked on a volunteer basis or be required by OneStar to activate to assist in disaster response and recovery activities within their communities. This may involve virtual service opportunities or in-person service opportunities. This may include service opportunities outside of the member's standard service hours or in place of their standard service duties. In the event of a large-scale, high needs local, state, or federal disaster, AmeriCorps members may voluntarily or be required by OneStar to deploy to an area outside of their service area to assist in disaster response and recovery activities.
