The successful candidate will apply advanced scientific principles to develop new wood treatment products/processes, improve existing materials, and support our sustainability and quality goals. This role involves original research, cross-functional collaboration, and technical leadership in industrial settings. Key Responsibilities Lead Industrial research projects supporting new markets, new products, or increasing use of existing Nisus products Collaborate with cross-functional teams (engineering, manufacturing, sustainability, product development) to integrate research findings into commercial applications. Evaluate product performance under environmental stresses such as moisture, temperature, biological degradation, and mechanical loads. Support wood treatment process improvements , troubleshooting material performance issues, and recommending process changes. Stay current with emerging research in wood science, forest products, and bio-based materials; identify opportunities for innovation and competitive advantage. Publish research in peer-reviewed journals and contribute to intellectual property development (patents). Attend, present research, and develop methods or standards at various conferences including RTA, AWPA, WWPI, and IRG-WP Ensure compliance with relevant environmental, safety, and industry standards. Provide Technical Services in wood and wood composite protection to customers and potential customers Support customers and sales staff through training as needed including during new plant startups

Qualifications Education:

PhD in Wood Science, Forest Products, Materials Science, Forestry, Chemical Engineering, a related discipline, or >5 years experience in wood protection. Strong expertise in one or more of the following areas: Wood Protection Wood chemistry and modification Engineered wood and composites Biological testing of wood materials Competency Strong communication skills- both oral and written Public speaking/presenting skills Strong statistical, data analysis, and scientific writing skills. Excellent problem-solving abilities and able to work in multidisciplinary teams.
