109•$ 32,547.00 minimum salary Purpose of Classification Performs technical work in the maintenance, repair or construction of road and drainage infrastructure. Duties include maintaining existing roadways, drainage structures, and grounds. Will operate manual and hand power tools. Positions in this class perform routine maintenance and identify needed corrective actions to resolve discrepancies; answer maintenance questions; and maintain repair documents and records. Essential Functions The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned. Performs road maintenance, brush cutting, trimming and trash removal; assists paving crew in the construction of roads and drainage improvements; performs manual labor at construction sites; patches roadways; utilizes flagging vehicles to direct traffic on road construction for public safety. Picks up and disposes of trash, brush and dead animals; install pipes for driveways; marks and cuts concrete driveways; assists in the installation of drainage culverts, roadside ditch work, road shoulder widening and cleaning drain ditches; assist in setting blue tops for grade / elevation control. Provides flagger assistance when working road projects; works with power tools in a safe manner. assists in picking up trash, debris. and tires. Assist in the cleaning and providing preventive maintenance to light to heavy road construction equipment including motor graders, pavers, rollers, chip spreaders, loaders, backhoes and tractors. Prepares various department documents requiring knowledge of department policies, programs, and procedures and which may involve researching, compiling, analyzing, retrieving and/or summarizing data. Additional Functions Performs other related duties as required. Minimum Qualifications High School Diploma or GED preferred; Two (2) years of experience performing road maintenance and/or construction work. Must have a valid Texas Driver's License.ADA Compliance Physical Ability:
Tasks require the ability to exert medium physical effort in medium work, but which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of heavy weight (50•100 pounds). Tasks may involve extended periods of time climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motion at a keyboard or work station.Sensory Requirements:
Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate sounds and visual cues or signals. Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.Environmental Factors:
Essential functions are regularly performed with exposure to adverse environmental conditions. Exposure to damp/wet surfaces, duty conditions, fumes and odors, flammable liquids and high noise levels. This is a Civil Service covered position. Testing requirements will follow section 2.32 of the Civil Service Rules and Regulations Handbook. Probationary period will follow section 2.35 of the Civil Service Rules and Regulations Handbook.Benefits:
