The Patient Accounts Specialist is responsible for the efficient and orderly resolution of all patient accounts assigned by a designated alpha group. Ensures accurate and complete payment by insurance companies and patients, as well as accurate account adjustments pursuant to hospital policy. Responsible for interviewing patients, providing financial counseling by estimating balances due, and offering opportunities for payment. Secures payment or contract for payment, including in-depth collections prior to bad debt considerations. Makes recommendations for indigent and bad debt placements. Processes correspondence, retro insurance, retro Medicaid, and mail return. Updates demographic and insurance information as needed. Performs other duties and provides coverage of other positions within the department. Provides customer service by answering the phones and in person.
Requirements:
2 or more years experience in a medical office setting with some public contact involving problem-solving and billing. Prefer CPAR or related certification.
