Marketing/Communications The Opportunity:
Urban Ministry has served the West End community through ministries of compassion and wholeness for over forty years. The volunteer and marketing coordinator connects people's gifts to neighborhood needs and tells Urban Ministry's story. This job requires exceptional listening skills, creativity, flexibility, and passion for service. It also requires an aesthetic eye, attention to detail, and intentional storytelling. The volunteer and marketing coordinator envisions how people's gifts can strengthen the neighborhood and communicates that vision effectively to the community and beyond. This position builds friendships, develops community, and tells the Urban Ministry's story..
Volunteers support each ministry area:
WE Build, WE Care, WE Garden, WE Learn, WE Café and WE Work. While program directors help manage volunteers in their specific area, the Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for each volunteer's experience. In addition to program support, the Volunteer Coordinator oversees the daily WE Café pay-as-you-can volunteer opportunity, the community food co-ops, the Joe Rush summer house painting project, additional community initiatives, and neighborhood events. The Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for establishing, overseeing, and coordinating all volunteer and service opportunities for Urban Ministry. Our ideal candidate will be connected to West End, have experience hosting volunteer groups, believe in the mission of Urban Ministry, and work well with people of diverse backgrounds. The Volunteer Coordinator director will ensure that all volunteer work is the following:
  • Meaningful —The work must make a noticeable impact in the community. This impact must be effectively communicated to volunteers.
  • Efficient —Set up happens before volunteers arrive. Volunteers should never stand around waiting.
  • Relational —Volunteer opportunities must build community Storytelling matters.
A good story sticks. It makes an impression. It's memorable. At Urban Ministry, marketing is about telling the right story, in the right way, at the right time. Storytelling isn't just about words. It includes color schemes, smiling faces, small details, intentional design, and a commitment to excellence. Effective marketing captures the essence of Urban Ministry's mission through visual art and written words. Marketing coordination has three main components: Social Media, Newsletters, and Promotions. Social Media (10%) Take pictures that capture emotion and progress in each program area Post on all social media platforms 2-3 time per week Keeping up with current events Posting WE Cafe menu Promote events and giving opportunities Newsletters (10%) Collect moving stories Write and design one e-newsletter every other month Edit and format occasional print newsletter Communicate with Foundy Promotions (10%) Creating flyers and promotional material for one-time events. This includes but is not limited to: Collard Green Cookoff Table of Hope Designing and implementing Urban Ministry signage and t-shirts Creating WE Cafe informational signage Upcoming event promotion on the bulletin board and for the WE Cafe projector In addition to the social media, newsletter, and promotional materials, the volunteer and marketing coordinator will serve as the point person for Foundry Collaborative, which manages the Urban Ministry website. This position reports to the Director of Operations. This job description is subject to change based on the organizational needs and/or the gifts and energy of the volunteer and marketing coordinator. Job Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Valid driver's license and eligibility for Urban Ministry's insurance
  • Skilled at developing and maintaining relationships with volunteers and donors
  • Commitment to the overall mission and vision of Urban Ministry
  • Ability to drive a box truck or 15 passenger bus when needed
  • Ability to work long hours outside in a variety of weather conditions
  • Ability to lift at least 35lbs
  • Flexibility in work schedule to accommodate volunteer groups This position reports to the Director of Operations.
Salary Range:
$42,000
  • 52,000 based on experience (health insurance and benefits included).
