ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Under the supervision of the assistant director, the marketing and design coordinator will: Create and update Educational Talent Search (ETS) brochures, flyers, posters, infographic, curriculum, and program website. Create social media content and participate in creative brainstorming. Photograph and edit photos of special events. Edit and organize photos for print and digital use using Adobe Lightroom or other editing software. Ensure proper care and maintenance of photography equipment. Assist in planning and coordinating ETS-sponsored activities, including field trips, college tours, leadership activities, and summer programs. Maintain student confidentiality in accordance with FERPA guidelines. Attend meetings with the Educational Talent Search assistant director and director. Support recruitment, intake, and retention of eligible Educational Talent Search (ETS) participants in accordance with federal TRIO guidelines. Assist ETS advisors in delivering services such as academic advising, financial aid guidance, college exploration, and career awareness to middle school, high school, and college students from low-income and first-generation backgrounds. Plan events for ETS alumni to promote a sense of belonging, college retention, and graduation. Promote academic and program resources to ETS alumni and provide referrals to campus services, as appropriate. Develop and distribute outreach materials, newsletters, and digital communications to promote program services and opportunities. Review and update program curriculum to ensure accuracy and clarity. Supervise students during program activities such as field trips, college tours, leadership activities, and summer programs. Provide administrative support, including entering participant applications into the student database, maintaining participant files, and assisting with data collection for the annual performance report. Participate in occasional evening, weekend, and early morning activities as required. Perform other duties as assigned to support ETS program goals.
EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS
Bachelor's degree in communication design, marketing, education, psychology, social work, or a closely related field is required. At least one year of equivalent experience, preferably working with educationally and economically disadvantaged populations. Highly motivated, flexible, and able to drive/work across various educational sites. Strong verbal and written communication skills, including professional writing and public speaking. Demonstrated interpersonal skills, sensitivity, and ability to relate to program participants and their families. Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, administrators, and public/private agencies. Basic knowledge of the psychological, behavioral, and educational factors affecting first-generation college students from low-income and underrepresented backgrounds. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Google applications. Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience using graphic design and creative software, such as Canva and/or Adobe Creative Suite, including InDesign, Photoshop, Lightroom, and Illustrator. Knowledge of layout composition and typography. Experience with illustration and animation. Knowledge of camera functions and photographic editing. Experience managing social media platforms and developing content strategies. Bilingual proficiency (oral and written) in Spanish, Hmong, or Punjabi is highly desirable. Experience using BLUMEN or similar student databases. Experience working in educational equity or TRIO programs. Familiarity with the Chico State service area.
COMPLIANCE REQUIREMENTS
Candidate must be in possession of valid driver's license and automobile liability insurance. Participation in the DMV Employer Pull Notice Program (driving record) is required. The candidate will be required to update their insurance with Chico State Enterprises Human Resources when necessary. Satisfactory completion of a background check (including a criminal records check) is required for employment. Chico State Enterprises will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current Chico State Enterprises employee who was conditionally offered the position.
