This position is responsible for developing strategic relationships with referral sources, increasing hospice admissions, expanding market presence, and driving sustainable census growth. The ideal candidate is an established hospice business development professional with a strong network of healthcare referral sources and a proven history of generating hospice referrals and admissions. This position requires a minimum of 5 years of direct hospice business development experience. Candidates with substantial home health business development/sales experience may be considered in lieu of hospice-specific experience , particularly those with an established network of healthcare referral sources and a proven track record of generating referrals and admissions. Key Responsibilities Develop and execute strategic business development plans to increase hospice referrals, admissions, and census. Establish, develop, and maintain strong relationships with physicians, hospitals, skilled nursing facilities, assisted living communities, home health agencies, case managers, social workers, discharge planners, and other referral partners. Identify and develop new referral sources and market opportunities. Conduct regular facility, physician, and community visits to educate referral partners about hospice services. Educate healthcare professionals, patients, and families regarding hospice eligibility, services, and the benefits of hospice care. Maintain a strong presence within the assigned market and represent the organization professionally within the healthcare community. Monitor referral trends, competitor activity, market opportunities, and census growth. Collaborate closely with clinical leadership, admissions, operations, and executive leadership to ensure a seamless referral-to-admission process. Follow up consistently with referral sources to strengthen relationships and increase referral volume. Develop and maintain a strategic referral pipeline. Track business development activities, referral sources, conversion rates, and results. Participate in community events, healthcare networking opportunities, educational programs, and professional organizations. Develop strategies to increase market share and strengthen the organization's reputation within the hospice community. Meet or exceed established referral, admission, and census growth goals. Provide regular reports and updates regarding business development activity and market performance. Ensure all business development activities are conducted professionally and in accordance with applicable healthcare regulations and organizational policies. Required Qualifications Minimum of 5 years of direct hospice business development experience required. Proven track record of generating hospice referrals and contributing to census growth. Established relationships with healthcare referral sources preferred. Strong understanding of the hospice industry, referral process, and hospice eligibility. Demonstrated success in healthcare sales, business development, or account management. Excellent communication, presentation, networking, and relationship-building skills. Strong organizational and follow-up skills. Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with clinical and operational teams. Ability to analyze market opportunities and develop effective growth strategies. Valid driver's license and reliable transportation required. Ability to travel throughout the assigned service area. Preferred Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Business, Healthcare Administration, Marketing, or a related field preferred. Existing network of hospice, hospital, SNF, assisted living, physician, and healthcare referral relationships. Experience managing a hospice business development territory. Demonstrated history of achieving or exceeding referral and census goals. Experience working with CRM systems and business development reporting tools.
