  • $68,000 with eligibility for salary review after successful completion of the first year.

The Chamber facilitates economic drivers and meaningful connections that support business development, sustained growth, and quality of life across our region. Position Summary The Chamber is seeking a highly motivated, relationship-driven, and results-oriented professional to serve as Director of Membership & Sponsorship Development. This individual is responsible for the full ownership, development, execution, and financial performance of the Chamber's membership growth and retention, sponsorship sales, and revenue generation efforts. The Director of Membership & Sponsorship Development serves as the Chamber's primary business development leader, responsible for identifying new membership opportunities, strengthening relationships with existing members, securing sponsorship investments, and expanding strategic partnerships that support the Chamber's mission and long-term sustainability. This role requires a proactive sales mindset, exceptional communication skills, strong financial accountability, and disciplined execution. Success in this position is measured through membership growth, sponsor retention and acquisition, revenue generation, and meaningful engagement with the business community. Key Responsibilities Membership Sales and Business Development Lead all new member recruitment efforts, developing and implementing strategies that support annual membership growth objectives. Maintain a consistent pipeline of prospective members and strategic partners through networking, outreach, referrals, and community engagement. Conduct meetings, presentations, and consultations with prospective members to communicate Chamber value and secure new investments. Partner with the Membership Coordinator to support retention efforts and identify opportunities to increase member participation and value. Develop extensive knowledge of Chamber benefits, programs, events, and partnerships to effectively position membership opportunities. Sponsorship Sales and Revenue Generation Maintain ownership of sponsorship revenue goals across Chamber events, programs, marketing opportunities, and strategic initiatives. Identify, cultivate, and secure sponsorship investments that align with Chamber objectives and partner needs. Maintain strong relationships with sponsors to ensure a high level of engagement, retention, and fulfillment. Collaborate with Chamber staff to create sponsorship packages and revenue-generating opportunities that enhance organizational sustainability. Identify and pursue alternative revenue opportunities that support Chamber growth and mission impact. Member and Community Engagement Represent the Chamber in the business community with professionalism, enthusiasm, and credibility. Participate in networking events, Chamber programs, ribbon cuttings, and community gatherings to strengthen relationships and support business development efforts. Build strong relationships with local business leaders, nonprofit organizations, community stakeholders, and strategic partners. Marketing and Brand Support Support the execution of annual marketing and membership campaigns in collaboration with Chamber staff. Promote Chamber programs, events, and membership opportunities through community outreach, networking, and relationship-building efforts. Collaborate with team members to ensure consistent messaging and strong Chamber brand visibility. Budget Ownership and Financial Accountability Maintain ownership and accountability for membership and sponsorship revenue goals. Monitor sales activity, membership recruitment metrics, sponsorship performance, and revenue results. Track progress against established goals and provide regular reporting to the Chamber President. Develop sales strategies that support long-term financial sustainability and organizational growth. Ensure responsible stewardship of Chamber resources while maximizing revenue opportunities. Operational Excellence and Continuous Improvement Maintain accurate records of member prospects, sales activities, sponsorship commitments, and follow-up actions within Chamber systems. Evaluate sales performance, member feedback, and market opportunities to identify areas for improvement. Recommend and implement new sales initiatives that increase membership growth, sponsor engagement, and organizational impact. Support Chamber-wide efforts and special projects as assigned. Work Environment and Expectations Position is primarily based on-site at the Chamber office and throughout the Northwest Ottawa County business community. Regular local travel is required for member visits, networking, sales meetings, and events. Flexibility to attend early morning and evening and events is required. Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, Communications, or related field preferred. Minimum of three years of successful sales, business development, membership development, relationship management or marketing experience. Track record of meeting or exceeding revenue goals and performance expectations. Experience working with nonprofit, association, chamber, or community organizations preferred. Experience utilizing CRM systems and Microsoft Office applications.
