Director of Business Development Mortenson Construction paid time off, tuition reimbursement, 401(k), retirement plan United States, North Carolina, Mccutcheon Field 4177M White Street (Show on map) Aug 21, 2026 SUMMARY Mortenson is currently seeking an experienced Director of Business Development with the ability to interact with a variety of staff at all levels in an ever-changing environment, remaining flexible, resourceful, proactive, and efficient with a high level of professionalism and confidentiality. Excellent written and verbal communications skills are vital, with attention to detail equally important. The Director of Business Development will partner with business unit market leaders in developing and supporting positioning strategies with existing and potential customers to win project work, as well as leading teams.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Lead the positioning activities of the business development team Manage strategic business planning Develop strategic positioning plan for company and project pursuits Manage creation and production of internal and external communications, marketing/branding/advertising materials and presentations Coordinate prequalification efforts with targeted customers and partners Initiate customer feedback on proposals and presentations Manage interface between business development, pre-construction, and marketing Provide insight into market sector leaders Participate in the Business Development Advancement Team and share corporate direction and development tactics with the development team Establish and nurture strategic business partnerships and customer relationships Develop and maintain relationships with potential partners including, but not limited to community leaders, utilities, equipment manufacturers, engineering firms Identify new market sectors and potential future customers Become familiar with customer's project estimates to facilitate discussion with customer Manage the development team Provide work direction, training, and performance reviews to team members Set and manage department budget Use the appropriate level of forethought and planning in decision making to assure project success
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree in Business, Construction Management, or Engineering, or a related field Minimum of 10 years prior industry-related business development experience Strong management skills Proven customer relationship building skills, with developed local/regional business knowledge Proven knowledge and execution of successful marketing strategies Detail orientation sufficient to organize and manage multiple project tasks Possess basic understanding of construction law and generally accepted business practices Microsoft Office, project and pertinent web application skills at an intermediate level Proven positive and professional attitude, and strong customer service skills Ability to interpret and communicate Mortenson policies Current driver's license Travel of up to 30% of time may be necessary to fulfill the objectives of the position A few benefits offered include: (for Non-Craft & Non-Union Craft working 25+ hours / week) Medical and prescription drug plans that includes no additional cost vision coverage Dental plan 401k retirement plan with a generous Mortenson match Paid time off, holidays, and other paid leaves Employer paid Life, AD&D, and disability insurance No-Cost mental health tool and conciergewith extensive work-life resources Tuition reimbursement Adoption Assistance Gym Membership Discount Program The base pay range for this role is $200,900 MIN
  • $301,400 MAX. (Actual range is higher for the following office locations: Denver, CO and Chicago, IL
  • 5%, Seattle, WA, and Portland, OR
  • 10%, Washington, D.C.

5%). Base pay is positioned within the range based on several factors including an individual's knowledge, skills, and experience, with consideration given to internal equity. This position is eligible for Mortenson's incentive plan. #LI-BP1 Visa sponsorship is not offered for this position. Our postings are typically open a minimum of 5 days and an average of 44 days.
