General Sales Manager - High-Volume Automotive Dealership Honda of Indian Trail is seeking a dynamic, results-driven General Sales Manager to take control of our variable operations, drive traffic, and lead our dealership to the next level. We are not looking for a desk-bound administrator. We need a highly visible, hands-on leader who thrives on the showroom floor—coaching the team, working deals, creating urgency, engaging customers, developing managers, and driving performance throughout the day. This individual must be prepared to take complete ownership of the variable department. Our goal is to build a team of approximately 40 Sales Associates and 8 F&I Managers and grow Honda of Indian Trail into a consistent 500+ unit-per-month dealership . Position Overview The General Sales Manager will be responsible for the leadership, growth, and profitability of the entire variable operation, including sales, desking, F&I, recruiting, training, traffic generation, inventory management, and customer experience. The successful candidate will not manage from behind a closed office door. This leader must be present, approachable, energetic, decisive, and actively involved in the business every day. You must know how to create opportunities—not simply wait for customers to arrive. You will work closely with the BDC, marketing team, Sales Managers, F&I Managers, and Sales Associates to increase leads, appointments, showroom traffic, closing ratios, gross, and market share. Key Responsibilities Take complete ownership of the dealership's variable operations Maintain a strong, highly visible presence on the showroom floor Lead from the front by actively coaching, motivating, and directing the team Drive monthly sales volume toward and beyond 500 vehicles Recruit and develop a team of approximately 40 Sales Associates and 8 F&I Managers Develop strategies that increase digital leads, phone opportunities, appointments, showroom traffic, and market share Work directly with the BDC and marketing team to maximize every advertising and lead source Create urgency and momentum through daily meetings, coaching, contests, and performance tracking Establish clear expectations and hold Sales Managers, F&I Managers, and Sales Associates accountable Step into deals, handle objections, assist with closes, and engage customers when needed Desk deals aggressively while protecting front-end gross Work closely with F&I to maximize back-end gross, product penetration, and total deal profitability Monitor lead-response times, appointment ratios, show rates, closing ratios, salesperson productivity, and advertising performance Maximize internet leads, phone leads, unsold showroom traffic, lease maturity, equity, and owner-base opportunities Manage inventory mix, pricing, aging, and turn Recruit continuously and create a strong pipeline of new sales talent Develop managers and future leaders from within the organization Deliver an outstanding customer experience while maintaining a competitive, performance-driven culture Ensure compliance with dealership policies and manufacturer standards The Leader We Are Looking For We want someone who: Leads through action, energy, and personal involvement Is comfortable spending the majority of the day actively engaged with the team Knows how to take control of a department and set a clear direction Can create business instead of relying on natural showroom traffic Coaches in real time and addresses problems immediately Is willing to work deals, speak with customers, and help close business Builds relationships while maintaining high expectations Creates a culture of urgency, accountability, teamwork, and execution Knows how to push for results without sacrificing the customer experience Accepts complete responsibility for traffic, volume, gross, and profitability Leads from the front and expects every manager to do the same Qualifications Minimum of 5 years of successful automotive sales management experience General Sales Manager or senior variable-operations experience strongly preferred Honda or other high-volume import experience preferred Proven ability to increase traffic, unit volume, gross profit, and departmental profitability Demonstrated success recruiting, training, and retaining a large sales and F&I organization Exceptional desking, deal-structuring, objection-handling, and closing skills Strong understanding of automotive marketing, CRM management, digital leads, and BDC operations Experience managing inventory, aging, pricing, and dealership KPIs High-energy, competitive, decisive, and highly accountable leadership style Ability to succeed in a fast-paced, high-volume environment Compensation and Benefits Competitive base salary Aggressive performance-based bonus structure tied to volume, gross, and profitability Full benefits package Significant long-term growth opportunity The infrastructure, inventory access, and market potential to build a 500+ unit operation Ready to Lead From the Front? $200,000.00 - $400,000.00 per year
