Job Description
We are seeking an experienced and hands-on General Manager to oversee the day-to-day operations of our company. This is a senior management position responsible for leading and managing our sales team while also overseeing operations, warehouse activities, shipping, order execution, and coordination between departments. The General Manager will work directly with the Owner/President and will be responsible for ensuring that customer inquiries, quotations, purchase orders, production follow-up, shipments, and internal operational matters are handled accurately and in a timely manner. This position requires a strong manager who is organized, accountable, proactive, and comfortable working closely with both sales and warehouse employees. Key Responsibilities Sales Team Management Lead, supervise, and support the company's sales team. Monitor sales activities, customer follow-up, quotations, open opportunities, purchase orders, and account development. Ensure sales representatives respond to customers promptly and professionally. Review sales performance and hold employees accountable for their responsibilities and sales goals. Help sales representatives prioritize customers and identify higher-value opportunities. Ensure customer information, quotations, opportunities, contracts, and follow-up activities are properly maintained in the company's CRM system. Coordinate customer issues involving pricing, delivery, quality, production, and shipping. Assist with recruiting, training, and evaluating sales employees. Order and Contract Execution Monitor open customer orders from receipt through final delivery. Ensure important customer contracts and purchase orders are properly tracked. Coordinate with sales, purchasing, production, quality, warehouse, and shipping personnel to keep orders on schedule. Identify potential delays or problems early and take action to resolve them. Ensure changes, cancellations, releases, delivery schedules, and other important customer instructions are properly documented and communicated. Follow up on overdue or high-priority orders and customer issues. Warehouse and Shipping Oversight Provide management oversight of the Warehouse Manager and warehouse/shipping operations. Ensure incoming and outgoing shipments are handled accurately and efficiently. Ensure employees properly verify quantities, packages, weights, condition, and shipping documentation when receiving or releasing shipments. Monitor inventory handling, packaging, labeling, storage, and shipping procedures. Ensure customer orders are shipped accurately and on time. Coordinate urgent air shipments, international shipments, freight shipments, UPS/FedEx shipments, and customer-specific shipping requirements. Work with freight carriers and logistics providers to resolve delivery problems, damaged shipments, shortages, or missing cargo. Operations Management Oversee the Operations Manager and coordinate daily activities between sales, office, warehouse, shipping, purchasing, and other departments. Establish clear priorities and ensure employees understand their responsibilities. Improve internal procedures and communication between departments. Identify operational problems and implement practical solutions. Develop and maintain systems for tracking open orders, customer issues, inventory, shipments, and employee responsibilities. Ensure company policies and procedures are consistently followed. Customer Service Ensure important customer requests and problems receive timely attention. Become involved directly when significant customer issues require management attention. Help resolve delivery, quality, pricing, payment, and service issues. Maintain strong relationships with key customers. Ensure the company provides professional and responsive customer service. Personnel Management Supervise managers and employees under the General Manager's responsibility. Set clear expectations and evaluate employee performance. Conduct regular meetings with sales, operations, and warehouse personnel. Address performance, attendance, communication, and accountability issues. Participate in recruiting, interviewing, onboarding, training, and employee development. Recommend staffing changes when necessary. Reporting to the Owner/President Provide regular updates regarding sales performance, major customer opportunities, open orders, operational problems, warehouse activities, and shipping issues. Immediately escalate significant customer, financial, quality, personnel, or operational problems. Provide recommendations for improving sales performance, efficiency, customer service, and internal management. Qualifications 7+ years of management experience in sales, operations, distribution, manufacturing, industrial products, or a related environment. Previous experience managing multiple departments or functions is strongly preferred. Strong sales management and customer service skills. Experience with warehouse, shipping, logistics, or distribution operations. Strong organizational and follow-up skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities and resolve problems quickly. Strong leadership and employee management skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Experience with CRM, ERP, inventory, accounting, or order-management systems. Pipedrive and QuickBooks experience is a plus. Experience working with industrial products, metals, manufacturing, or technical products is preferred. Management Style We Are Looking For The successful candidate must be a hands-on manager who is willing to become directly involved in daily operations when necessary. We are looking for someone who does not simply assign tasks, but actively follows up, verifies completion, identifies problems early, and makes sure important customer and operational matters are completed properly and on time. The ideal candidate should be able to lead people, establish accountability, improve communication between departments, and create a more organized and efficient working environment. Work Environment This is a full-time, on-site management position. The General Manager is expected to work closely with the sales, office, warehouse, and shipping teams and maintain a regular presence in the office and warehouse. This is not a remote position.
