Part Time, Hourly, Non-Exempt Job Description As a cashier / server / bartender employee at Black Forest Kitchen [Company], you are responsible for providing excellent guest service while accurately processing orders, handling payments, serving food and beverages, and maintaining a clean and welcoming dining environment. This role is critical to guest satisfaction and the overall success of daily restaurant operations. This description outlines the general nature of the role and is not exhaustive. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Greet guests promptly and provide friendly, professional customer service. Accurately take orders, answer menu questions, and process cash and electronic payments using the point‑of‑sale system. Serve food and beverages, including alcoholic beverages when applicable, in accordance with Black Forest Kitchen standards and all applicable California and local regulations. Communicate efficiently with kitchen team members to support smooth service Assist with prep work, including chopping, slicing, portioning, and labeling food items Follow proper food handling, safety, and sanitation practices at all times Verify identification and follow responsible beverage service practices, ensuring alcohol is not served to minors or visibly intoxicated guests; maintain required Responsible Beverage Service (RBS) certification. Maintain cleanliness and organization of front‑of‑house and bar areas, including counters, dining areas, restrooms, glassware, and equipment, in compliance with food safety and sanitation standards. Communicate effectively with kitchen staff to ensure accurate and timely order fulfillment. Address guest concerns professionally and promptly notify leadership when escalation is needed. Follow all company policies, procedures, and workplace standards, including opening and closing duties as assigned. Support team members and assist with additional tasks as needed to ensure smooth service operations. Food Safety & Certification Requirements Employees working in this role are required to comply with all applicable food safety laws under the California Retail Food Code and Alameda County Environmental Health regulations. Employees who prepare, handle, serve, or come into contact with food, food‑contact surfaces, or utensils must obtain a California Food Handler Card from an approved, ANSI/ANAB‑accredited training provider within 30 days of hire. The Food Handler Card must be maintained and kept valid for the duration of employment. The company will cover the cost of required food handler training and examination and will compensate employees for the time spent completing the training, in accordance with California law. Employees must follow all established food safety, sanitation, hygiene, and health practices at all times and cooperate with food safety training and inspections as required. This position may require working under the direction of a Certified Food Protection Manager (CFPM) or Person‑in‑Charge. Failure to maintain required certifications or follow food safety standards may result in corrective action, up to and including termination.
