JOB DESCRIPTION
Summary/Objective:
We're seeking a dependable, hospitality-driven Opening Shift Lead to oversee daily opening operations at our Santa Barbara Taproom. This hands-on position will lead the daytime team, deliver an excellent guest experience, and ensure the taproom is organized, stocked, and ready for a successful day. This is a part-time position with the potential to expand into full-time hours over time. Additional hours may also be available by assisting with private parties, seasonal events, taproom programming, and other special events. Compensation $18-$22 per hour, depending on experience, plus tips. Schedule This is a part-time position consisting primarily of opening and daytime shifts. A typical shift is approximately six hours or less. Weekend and occasional holiday availability may be required. Essential Functions:

Opening Operations Arrive on time and complete the company's taproom-opening procedures Disarm or access the building according to established security procedures Inspect the taproom, restrooms, patio, bar, storage areas, and entrances before opening Verify that all guest areas are clean, organized, safe, and properly stocked Prepare point-of-sale stations and cash drawers Check draft-system operation, beverage availability, menus, signage, and merchandise displays Confirm the day's staffing, reservations, private events, promotions, and programming Identify and promptly report maintenance, safety, inventory, or staffing concerns Ensure the taproom is completely prepared and opened to guests at the scheduled time Shift Leadership Direct the activities of employees working during the opening shift Assign side work, service stations, restocking, cleaning, and other daily responsibilities Communicate company priorities, product updates, events, and out-of-stock items Monitor employee performance and provide respectful, immediate coaching when needed Lead by example through professionalism, urgency, cleanliness, and guest engagement Complete an accurate handoff to the closing shift lead or manager Guest Experience Welcome guests and provide attentive, informed service Explain beer styles, available beverages, promotions, events, and merchandise Pour and serve beverages according to established quality and portion standards Check identification and support responsible alcohol service Address guest questions and routine concerns professionally Escalate serious complaints, incidents, or refund requests according to company policy Help create an inclusive and welcoming environment for guests and employees Cash and Point-of-Sale Responsibilities Count, issue, and verify cash drawers according to company procedures Process sales, discounts, refunds, comps, and voids within assigned authorization levels Protect company funds and immediately report discrepancies Assist with cash counts, sales reports, tip procedures, and other required documentation Ensure that point-of-sale transactions are accurate and properly closed Inventory and Facility Standards Restock beer, wine, nonalcoholic beverages, merchandise, service supplies, and paper goods Receive and verify deliveries when assigned Rotate products and monitor dates, quality, and storage conditions Assist with routine inventory counts and communicate product shortages Maintain clean and organized coolers, storage rooms, workstations, and guest areas Follow all safety, sanitation, opening, and cleaning procedures Report equipment failures, leaks, hazards, or building concerns immediately Communication and Administration Complete opening checklists, shift notes, incident reports, and other required records Communicate operational information clearly to management and incoming employees Document guest incidents, employee concerns, cash discrepancies, and maintenance issues Maintain the confidentiality of employee, guest, and company information Participate in meetings, training sessions, and performance conversations as requested Required Qualifications Must meet the legal age requirements for serving alcoholic beverages At least three years of hospitality, restaurant, bar, brewery, or retail experience preferred Shift leadership or supervisory experience preferred Reliable attendance and punctuality Strong guest-service and interpersonal skills Ability to prioritize responsibilities and direct employees during a shift Ability to handle cash and use a point-of-sale system accurately Ability to communicate professionally with guests, employees, vendors, and management Ability to obtain and maintain all certifications required for the position Physical Requirements The employee must be able to: Remain standing and walking for extended periods Regularly bend, reach, lift, carry, push, and pull Safely lift and carry up to 50 pounds Move beverage cases, kegs, supplies, and merchandise with appropriate assistance or equipment Work around wet floors, cleaning products, refrigerated areas, and typical taproom noise Work indoors and outdoors in varying temperatures when assigned to patio service Schedule Requirements The Opening Shift Lead must be available for scheduled opening and daytime shifts. Weekend and select holiday availability is required. Occasional evening coverage, private events, meetings, inventory counts, or training sessions may also be required.
