Role:
As a Weekend Cashier, you'll help create a welcoming dining experience while accurately processing meal plan, cash, credit card, and other payment transactions. As one of the first and last points of contact for guests entering and leaving the dining center, you'll provide friendly customer service, answer questions, and help keep dining operations running smoothly. You'll also help maintain clean and organized cashier, serving, and dining areas and support the broader Dining Services team as needed. This position offers a special weekend rate of $20.00 per hour in exchange for a consistent commitment to work every Saturday and Sunday that Dining Services is open during the employment period. Employees in this position may have opportunities to pick upadditional weekday shifts; any additional shifts outside of the regular weekend schedule will be paid at the standard Cashier rate.
What You'll Do:
Support the mission and vision of Concordia College and demonstrate the competencies as defined for this position. Greet students, staff, and guests in a friendly, professional manner. Accurately process meal plan passes; declining balance transactions; credit/debit cards; cash; and other accepted payment methods. Verify customer eligibility for meal plans and dining access and assist with crowd flow during peak meal periods. Maintain an accurate cash drawer and reconcile register funds at the beginning and end of each shift. Balance cash receipts and complete required cash handling documentation. Answer questions about meal plans, dining center policies, hours of operation, menus, and campus dining services. Assist guests with point-of-sale issues and escalate concerns when appropriate. Maintain confidentiality of student and financial information. Maintain a clean and organized cashier station. Assist with light cleaning, stocking, and other dining center support duties during slower periods. Report equipment malfunctions; customer concerns; or operational issues to supervisors. High school diploma (or GED)
Preferred Qualifications:
Previous cashier, retail, food service, higher ed, or customer service experience Experience using a computerized point-of-sale (POS) system Cash handling and balancing experience Knowledge of meal plan or campus card systems Experience working in a fast-paced, customer-focused environment ServSafe® certificate or ability to pass ServSafe® exam within the first three months of employment Skills and Abilities Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills Strong verbal communication skills with the ability to interact respectfully with a diverse campus community Ability to accurately handle cash and perform basic math calculations Strong attention to detail and accuracy Ability to learn and operate computerized POS systems and related technology Ability to remain calm and professional during busy meal periods Dependable with strong attendance and punctuality Able to work independently and with good judgment Ability to identify and resolve routing customer concerns Commitment to maintaining a safe, clean, and welcoming environment
