The Organization The Society of St. Vincent de Paul is a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping those in need through direct support, charitable outreach, and consumer-focused thrift store operations. Our thrift store helps fund a range of vital services while giving gently used items a second life. Job Summary We are seeking a dependable and enthusiastic Cashier to join our southeast Portland thrift store team. The successful candidate will need to provide excellent customer service skills while processing transactions, and periodically stocking merchandise. Your work will directly impact our mission of helping others. Candidates must be comfortable working in a retail environment, and customer service experience is preferred. We will train a team player with a strong work ethic, exceptional initiative, and excellent interpersonal skills. Responsibilities Operate cash register, processing various forms of payment. Bag merchandise, and keep checkout area clean and organized. Greet visitors, and respond appropriately and accurately to questions and concerns. Interact with customers and others having a wide range of backgrounds and communication abilities. Stock shelves with merchandise, ensuring products are organized and accessible. Assist with general store upkeep, as needed. Work collaboratively with other team members to support daily operations. Other duties as assigned by management. Requirements Ability to work weekends and evenings. Strong communication skills with the ability to interact positively with customers. Basic math skills for accurate cash handling and retail math tasks. Able to stoop, twist, and bend frequently. Able to stand for long periods, up to 8 hours if needed. Able to lift, push, and pull up to 35 pounds alone. Strong work ethic and punctuality. Successful completion of drug screen and criminal background check are required.
