Based on experience About the Role Dayton Mart is looking for a dependable, hardworking Store Clerk to join our team. As the face of our store, you'll keep the register moving, the shelves and coolers stocked, and the store clean and welcoming for every customer — whether you're working the morning open or the evening close. This is a hands-on, on-your-feet position for someone who takes pride in a well-run store. What You'll Do Customer Service & Register Greet every customer and provide fast, friendly service at the register. Accurately ring up sales and handle cash, card, and EBT payments. Keep the checkout area and register clean and organized.
Opening & Closing Duties Morning:
unlock the store, log into the POS and lottery terminal, brew fresh coffee, and count the starting cash drawer.
Morning:
prepare the bank deposit and change order, and report any cash or lottery issues to the Owner/Manager.
Evening:
complete nightly lottery reports, count and secure the closing cash drawer, and complete all closing paperwork.
Evening:
secure the store — lock all doors, turn off required equipment and lights, and leave clear notes for the next shift. Stocking, Coolers & Vendors Keep coolers, cigarettes, and chew/smokeless tobacco fully stocked and rotated (FIFO). Receive vendor deliveries, verify against invoices, check for damage, and restock immediately. Check products for expiration dates and remove expired items right away. Keep the back room organized. Coffee Station Brew fresh coffee throughout the shift and maintain quality. Keep cups, lids, creamers, and sweeteners stocked, and keep the coffee area clean. Store Recovery & Cleaning Face and organize shelves, cooler products, and tobacco displays. Sweep and mop the store, empty all trash, and keep the front door and glass clean. Clean and stock customer and employee bathrooms. Check and tidy the parking lot and fuel area. What We're Looking For Reliable, on-time, and ready to work every scheduled shift. Friendly, customer-focused attitude — you enjoy working with people. Comfortable handling cash and following basic cash-handling and lottery procedures. Able to stand and move for the full shift, and lift up to 50 pounds. Must be at least 21 years old. No experience required — we'll train you on our systems and procedures.
