Job Summary Job Summary The Canvasser supports Fortune School of Education's community outreach and student recruitment efforts by engaging families in designated neighborhoods and community locations. This position serves as a professional representative of Fortune School, providing accurate information about its schools, programs, and educational opportunities. The primary purpose of this role is to build positive relationships within the community, increase awareness of Fortune School, identify prospective families interested in learning more, and facilitate connections between interested families and the Enrollment Team. This position does not provide admissions decisions, or enrollment guarantees but serves as an important link between the community and Fortune School.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Conduct door-to-door outreach and community engagement activities in assigned geographic areas.
  • Professionally engage parents, guardians, families, and community members to share information about Fortune School's educational programs and enrollment opportunities.
  • Provide accurate, up-to-date, and approved information regarding Fortune School's schools, programs, events, and admissions processes.
  • Respond to general inquiries and refer complex or school-specific questions to the appropriate Enrollment Team member or school representative.
  • Identify and engage prospective families who may be interested in learning more about Fortune School.
  • Collect, record, and maintain accurate contact information and outreach activity data in accordance with organizational procedures and privacy expectations.
  • Support lead generation efforts by connecting interested families with the Enrollment Team for follow-up communication.
  • Meet established outreach goals and performance expectations as assigned.
  • Maintain accurate records of daily outreach activities, community interactions, and results.
  • Attend required trainings, team meetings, and outreach events.
  • Follow all organizational policies, safety procedures, confidentiality requirements, and standards of conduct.
  • Represent Fortune School in a professional, respectful, and culturally responsive manner at all times.
  • Maintain regular and reliable attendance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Professional Expectations Canvassers are ambassadors of Fortune School within the communities they serve.
Employees are expected to demonstrate:
  • Honesty, integrity, professionalism, and accountability.
  • Respectful and inclusive communication with all individuals.
  • Reliability, punctuality, and consistent follow-through.
  • Strong customer service and relationship-building skills.
  • Compliance with organizational policies, procedures, and ethical standards.
All information collected during outreach activities must be accurate, complete, and handled responsibly. Employees may only provide information approved by Fortune School and should not make commitments, guarantees, or representations outside the scope of their role. Questions beyond the canvasser's knowledge or authority should be referred to the appropriate staff member. Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent preferred.
  • Prior experience in customer service, community outreach, canvassing, sales, recruitment, education, or related public-facing roles preferred.
  • Strong verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to engage respectfully with individuals from diverse backgrounds and communities.
  • Basic proficiency with mobile devices, tablets, and data-entry applications.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Valid California driver's license, reliable transportation, and proof of current automobile insurance if using a personal vehicle for work-related travel.
  • Bilingual skills are highly desirable but not required. Physical Requirements
  • The physical demands described here are representative of those necessary to successfully perform the essential functions of this position.
  • Frequently walk, stand, and travel throughout assigned neighborhoods and community locations for extended periods.
  • Regularly communicate with members of the public in person.
  • Occasionally sit, bend, reach, carry, push, or pull materials weighing up to 20 pounds.
  • Regularly use a mobile phone, tablet, or other electronic device to document outreach activities.
  • Ability to travel between assigned outreach locations. Work Environment
  • Work is performed primarily in outdoor community settings, neighborhoods, and public spaces.
  • Employees may be exposed to varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, wind, and rain.
  • Evening and weekend work may be required based on outreach schedules and community events.
  • Travel within the local service area may be required.
