Full Job Description Full Job Description About MAC:
Memphis Artists for Change (MAC) is a non-partisan, 501c3 nonprofit organization working in community organizing and community development. Our FYI initiative includes our work to engage both registered and unregistered people in the state of Tennessee, specifically West Tennessee in the democratic process and participating in collective actions around common issue areas.
Position Summary:
MAC is a fast-paced, community organizing civic organization that has seen immense growth in the last twelve months and is headquartered in Memphis, TN. MAC seeks a passionate, energetic, and motivated professional that will join our Field department who is responsible for spreading voter awareness to minority communities throughout Memphis and Shelby County. Canvassers are one of the most important positions we have, as our organization builds on direct voter contact. We are seeking a well-organized, self-starter for a part-time, temporary position as Canvasser. The ideal candidate exemplifies a goal-orientated professional who is committed to all the issues we work on from voting rights to affordable housing and everything in between and establishing everlasting relationships with who they interact with. Because our target communities and colleagues come from a wide range of backgrounds, applicants need to be able to thoughtfully navigate issues related to diversity, race, equity and inclusion, and bring a deep commitment to advancing these values.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Knowing and following all of Tennessee's voter registration laws and adhering to those rules at all times; Ability to engage in thoughtful and respectful conversations with voters throughout Tennessee. (nonpartisan of course!); and Primarily works outdoors in different weather conditions; Ability to knock on an average of 75 doors per shift Canvassing local areas in an effort to register unregistered voters and/or get out the vote for upcoming elections Record and regularly sync data from the day's shift into our database using your smartphone.
Required Qualifications:
At least 18 years old; Comfortable walking or standing for extended periods of time; Comfortable working outside and in different weather conditions; Must have transportation to various work sites around your assigned area; Must have a working smartphone; and May travel over 1 mile on foot during your shift. May infrequently lift and/or move up to 20lbs Willingness to collaborate with diverse teams, personalities and expectations.
Required Competencies:
Committed to voter education; Maintain a can do, innovative and solutions-oriented attitude in all situations, especially tough situations; Strong sense of organization and time management skills; Ability to work in collaboration with a team; Strong sense of urgency while remaining calm under pressure; and Commitment to the mission of MAC.

The candidate will have a passion and commitment for MAC's mission, history, and its work. They will understand how this role contributes to the overall mission, drawing inspiration for the position of Canvasser from the community. The Canvasser will be an inspiring and empathic individual of unquestioned integrity, ethics and values, treating others with respect. Additionally, this position has recurring work situations that involve having a high degree of discretion. The need for accuracy and effective utilization of accepted programs and routines is high.
