We are developing models that learn how complex physical systems behave and reuse that understanding across forecasts, scenarios, and operational decisions. Energy is our first proving ground. We combine historical and live data with operational context, bringing together machine learning research, data infrastructure, and software engineering to turn advances in modeling into useful technology for energy operators. We are a small technical team working directly with the founders on our core models, systems, and products. About the role We are hiring a Founding Commercial Lead to turn product interest and technical capabilities into paid customer deployments. You will engage energy operators making recurring, consequential decisions across assets and portfolios. Working with the founders, you will identify promising accounts, find a valuable first application, and build a path to broader deployment of our models and technology across each customer's assets, teams, and decisions. You will build opportunities through targeted outreach, founder relationships, and engagement with users of Ask The Grid, our public product. This is a hands-on individual-contributor role with substantial influence on product and commercial strategy. You will own opportunities from discovery through evaluation, negotiation, and expansion. The founders will remain involved in technical selling and product commitments; our technical team will own implementation. You will help establish what we sell and how we sell it—not inherit a finished sales playbook. What you'll own Build a qualified pipeline through targeted outreach, product interest, founder relationships, and customer referrals. Lead discovery to understand customer operations, valuable decisions, existing workflows, data readiness, stakeholders, and purchasing processes. Work with the founders and technical team to define an achievable initial application and its path to broader adoption. Structure evaluations with agreed success criteria, customer responsibilities, technical requirements, timelines, and a clear path to a paid deployment. Own commercial progress through qualification, proposals, evaluation, negotiation, and closing, keeping technical commitments aligned with the team. Help develop pricing, packaging, and commercial terms that reflect customer value and realistic delivery requirements. Identify expansion opportunities across additional assets, teams, and operational decisions after initial adoption. Maintain clear pipeline records and turn customer learning into better positioning, product priorities, and a more repeatable commercial process. What we're looking for Experience selling complex technical products or deployments to energy companies, or equivalent commercial experience at the intersection of energy operations and technology. A record of personally leading complex technical sales from discovery through evaluation, negotiation, and a commercial agreement. The ability to understand energy operations and connect technical capabilities to specific operational or economic value. Comfort building pipeline and advancing opportunities personally, rather than relying on an established sales organization. Strong judgment about qualification, scope, and commercial commitments, including knowing when an opportunity is not a fit. Clear written and verbal communication with operators, technical teams, and senior decision-makers. The ability to create structure in an early commercial function through disciplined follow-through, documentation, and prioritization. First 90 days 30 days: Understand the technology, existing product interest, and customer needs; prioritize target accounts; and establish a qualified pipeline with promising initial applications. 60 days: Move the strongest qualified opportunities into signed evaluations with agreed scope, success criteria, customer stakeholders, technical requirements, and a clear purchasing path. 90 days: Convert suitable opportunities into initial paid deployments, advance other evaluations, and document what is becoming repeatable in customer selection, positioning, and expansion. Why join You will build the commercial function alongside the founders and help determine where our technology creates the most value. The role combines direct revenue responsibility with meaningful influence over customer focus, product direction, and the path from an initial application to a broader deployment. Location:
New York City or Boston/Cambridge. This is a hybrid role — we expect in-person collaboration 2-3 days per week.
Salary range:
$120,000-$178,000 USD.
