About the Role The Ruddy Duck is looking for a creative, detail-oriented Visual Merchandiser & Accessory Buyer to help shape the look, feel, and curated product mix of our boutique. This is a leadership role for someone who loves building beautiful in-store experiences and has an eye for what sells. This role is both artful and highly functional. We're a high-volume business with swift inventory turnover, so keeping up the pace is key. You'll take the lead on visual presentation and merchandising strategy and buy and manage our accessory categories — scarves, bags, belts and more — while also staying hands-on: our receiving assistant handles most merchandise processing, but you'll jump in to check in, hang, steam, and price product as needed, and you'll learn to work the selling floor as part of the role. If you can spot a trend, style a window that stops foot traffic, and think in terms of margins and sell-through all in the same day, we'd love to meet you. What You'll Do Design, build, and maintain visually compelling displays aligned with our brand and seasonal direction Get fresh stock onto the floor and ensure inventory levels are ready before every busy weekend Plan and execute floor sets, window displays, and product stories that drive engagement and sales Jump in to check in, hang, steam, and price merchandise alongside our receiving assistant Select, purchase, and manage accessory inventory (jewelry, scarves, bags, and complementary categories) Track sales performance and inventory levels to inform buying decisions Collaborate with ownership on seasonal assortments and pricing strategy Learn to work the selling floor and support customers as needed During slower season, help cover staff lunches and open the store for the first hour of business Train and support the team on merchandising standards and product knowledge Jump in on store presentation during events, promotions, and peak season Support general store operations to keep the customer experience seamless What We're Looking For A strong eye for visual merchandising, styling, and detail Experience buying or managing retail inventory — apparel or accessories preferred Working knowledge of retail math, margins, and sell-through Ability to plan and execute seasonal merchandising strategy Excellent organization and communication skills Comfort working both independently and as part of a team Ability to keep pace in a high-volume, fast-turnover retail environment Retail experience required; boutique or specialty retail experience preferred Compensation & Growth $22-$28/hour to start, based on experience Clear path to grow your rate over time as you take on more of the buying and leadership scope of the role Profit-share opportunity — an annual bonus tied to store performance, on top of your hourly wage Health insurance contribution Paid time off Physical Requirements Ability to stand for extended periods Ability to lift and move merchandise up to 40 lbs Ability to climb ladders and safely arrange displays Work Environment This is an in-person, retail-based role at our Hood River store, with some schedule flexibility needed during peak seasons and special events.
