Office / Back-Office Support About the Role Monkey Wrench Automotive is seeking a sharp, organized Parts Specialist / Estimate Builder to serve as the vital operational bridge between our technicians in the field/hub and our front-office service team. In this role, your primary responsibility is technician communication and dispatch support. You will work hand-in-hand with our technicians as they complete inspections: reviewing their diagnostic notes, clarifying part needs, looking up OEM and aftermarket components, and building accurate repair estimates directly in Tekmetric. While this is primarily an internal, behind-the-scenes position, you will occasionally provide overflow phone coverage when our shop is experiencing heavy call volume.
Key Responsibilities Primary Technician Liaison:
Maintain constant, clear communication with mobile and hub technicians regarding vehicle diagnoses, missing information, part fitment, and job readiness.
Estimate Building & Quoting:
Review technician Digital Vehicle Inspections (DVIs), photos/videos, and technician notes to construct accurate, itemized repair estimates in Tekmetric.
Parts Sourcing & Verification:
Cross-reference VINs and vehicle specs with parts catalogs to ensure accurate fitment the first time, preventing delays or incorrect component staging.
Vendor & Staging Coordination:
Source parts through local vendors, verify inventory, place orders, and coordinate staging at our Mesa hub or technician pickup points.
Labor Guide Application:
Utilize industry labor guides (e.g., ALLDATA, Mitchell 1, Tekmetric integrated guides) to assign accurate labor times.
Overflow Phone Support:
Occasionally answer incoming phone calls and route messages during peak busy periods when Service Advisors are occupied.
Qualifications & Skills Automotive Background:
Prior experience as a parts counter specialist, estimator, service assistant, technician, or lube tech with strong knowledge of automotive parts and systems.
Strong Communication:
Outstanding internal communication skills—comfortable talking technician lingo and translating technical notes into clean estimates.
Software Savvy:
Experience with automotive shop management platforms (preference for Tekmetric) and electronic parts ordering catalogs.
Detail-Oriented:
High precision with VIN decoding, part matching, and pricing/margin accuracy.
Phone Etiquette:
Professional, friendly phone presence when assisting with occasional overflow calls.
Compensation & Perks Hourly Pay:
$15.00 - $21.00/hr (Starting pay based on experience).
