Valentine:
Store Assistant (Carmel, CA) Wally's and Valentine are curated vintage clothing stores focused on quality, thoughtful research, and personal service. We're looking for a reliable, detail-oriented person to work closely with the owner and help keep both stores running smoothly. This is both a hands-on retail and back-office position for someone who is comfortable with everything from customer service to behind-the-scenes organization. The right person will become an important part of the daily operation of both stores: someone dependable who notices what needs to be done, follows through, and is willing to help wherever needed. Responsibilities Work on the sales floor, operate the register, and provide friendly customer service Help open, close, clean, organize, and maintain both stores Steam, clean, repair, tag, price, and prepare vintage clothing for sale Add and update inventory, SKU, sales, and transfer information Merchandise racks, displays, windows, and new arrivals Answer phones, emails, and customer requests Run errands and transport inventory, supplies, and repairs between locations Keep tools, supplies, storage areas, files, and product photos organized Communicate with service providers, such as internet providers or POS system providers. Assist with simple social media posts, photography, and store projects Work closely with the owner and help with whatever is needed to keep both stores running smoothly Requirements Genuine interest in vintage clothing, design, retail, or secondhand culture Trustworthy, honest, reliable, and consistent Friendly and comfortable working with customers Strong attention to detail Comfortable using spreadsheets and staying organized Experience with Google Sheets and Google Drive Basic photo editing skills Comfortable using point-of-sale and inventory systems, or willing to learn Able to work independently while also taking direction Willing to ask questions and communicate clearly Valid driver's license, reliable vehicle, and ability to transport merchandise between locations Comfortable lifting, carrying, steaming, cleaning, and moving inventory Retail experience is preferred, but management experience is not required Ideal Candidate The ideal person is practical, observant, creative, and dependable. They enjoy helping customers, working with clothing, organizing spaces, and completing the small tasks that keep a store functioning well. They understand that working in a vintage store can mean merchandising a beautiful display one moment and steaming clothing, cleaning tools, updating a spreadsheet, or carrying boxes the next. This position is best suited for someone who wants to become a trusted right-hand person rather than a traditional store manager. You should be comfortable taking initiative, but you will not be expected to independently run the entire business or manage every aspect of the stores. Because this role involves access to money, merchandise, customer information, and store systems, honesty, communication, and reliability are essential.
