Specialty Consulting, Inc. (SPC) is a Hispanic-owned multidisciplinary engineering and scientific consulting firm based in Chicago. Established in 2004, we provide consulting services throughout Illinois and beyond. SPC is seeking an experienced Restoration Architect or Engineer to serve as Department Leader and establish, lead, and grow our building restoration and rehabilitation practice. This senior leadership position will be responsible for technical oversight, project delivery, staff development, client relationships, and business development. The ideal candidate will bring strong technical expertise in building restoration and an established network of clients and industry relationships. This position provides an opportunity to build and lead a growing practice within an established multidisciplinary firm, while shaping the department's technical capabilities, developing staff, expanding client relationships, and strengthening SPC's restoration services throughout Chicago and the Midwest.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Lead and manage SPC's Restoration Engineering & Architecture Department, including strategic planning, staffing, technical quality, financial performance, growth, and day-to-day operations.
• Develop and expand SPC's capabilities in building restoration, rehabilitation, structural assessment, and building envelope consulting.
• Provide senior technical leadership for investigations, assessments, design, and restoration of existing buildings and structures.
• Oversee projects involving façades, masonry, concrete, roofing, windows, waterproofing, structural deterioration, water intrusion, and other building envelope systems.
• Review and approve technical reports, drawings, specifications, cost estimates, repair recommendations, and construction documents.
• Serve as Principal-in-Charge/Project Executive for major restoration and rehabilitation projects.
• Establish technical standards, quality-control procedures, and project delivery practices.
• Recruit, supervise, and mentor engineers, architects, project managers, and technical staff.
• Manage routine staff responsibilities, including workload, schedules, attendance, timesheet and expense approvals, and PTO requests.
• Manage departmental workload, project schedules, budgets, utilization, profitability, and resource allocation.
• Maintain active involvement in project and billable work while balancing department leadership and business development responsibilities.
• Develop and maintain strong relationships with existing and prospective clients.
• Lead business development activities, including identifying opportunities, developing client relationships, preparing proposals, and participating in interviews and presentations.
• Collaborate with Marketing on qualifications, project experience, proposals, and other business development efforts.
• Work with SPC leadership to establish annual revenue, backlog, staffing, and growth objectives for the department.
• Collaborate with SPC's structural, architectural, environmental, industrial hygiene, and geotechnical professionals to pursue and deliver multidisciplinary projects.
• Represent SPC at industry organizations, associations, conferences, and client events.
• Keep the President/CEO and executive leadership informed of significant project risks and client concerns and collaborate on significant department and business decisions.

REQUIREMENTS

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Architecture, Architectural Engineering, Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related discipline.
• 10+ years of progressively responsible experience in building restoration, rehabilitation, structural engineering, architecture, or building envelope consulting.
• Demonstrated experience leading projects and technical teams.
• Strong technical background in the evaluation and restoration of existing buildings, including masonry, concrete, façades, roofing, windows, waterproofing, and structural systems.
• Experience managing projects from initial investigation and design through bidding and construction administration.
• Demonstrated ability to develop client relationships and generate new business.
• Strong leadership, communication, technical writing, and project management skills.
• Experience managing project financial performance, staffing, schedules, and quality.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Illinois Professional Engineer (PE), Structural Engineer (SE), or Licensed Architect (RA) registration.
• Established client relationships and network within the Chicago and Midwest restoration market.
• Experience growing a restoration, building envelope, or structural rehabilitation practice.
• Experience with public-sector, educational, commercial, healthcare, and multifamily facilities.
• Knowledge of Chicago building and façade inspection requirements and applicable codes.
• Experience responding to RFQs/RFPs, developing scopes and fees, negotiating contracts, and leading client presentations.
