Job Summary:
The Store Associate provides friendly, fast, and professional customer service. This position helps customers, operates the cash register, handles payments, completes assigned paperwork, stocks merchandise, cleans the store, follows food safety rules, and supports daily store operations. Essential Functions
- Greet customers and provide friendly, fast, and professional customer service.
- Maintain professional communication with the management, corporate office, vendors, employees, and customers.
- Follow proper timekeeping practices by clocking in and out for all working hours.
- Complete shift paperwork according to company procedures.
- Check identification for age-restricted sales, including alcohol and tobacco, and confirm the customer is the legal age to purchase.
- Clean all areas using proper cleaning procedures and materials. Areas may include countertops, fountain areas, shelves, floors, windows, cooler doors, food service equipment, restrooms, and parking lots.
- Empty and clean indoor and outdoor trash receptacles.
- Stock shelves and coolers. Rotate products, front-facing merchandise, and remove damaged or out-of-date items.
- Price merchandise as needed.
- Check in vendor deliveries as needed using company procedures.
- Follow health, safety, and security requirements.
- Report unsafe conditions, safety concerns, and security issues to management immediately.
- Keep food merchandise stocked and ensure food cases are attractive, priced correctly, and displayed safely.
- Maintain food quality by monitoring preparation, presentation, and portion sizes.
- Follow all food safety regulations, hygiene practices, local health department requirements, and company food safety standards.
- Report store maintenance issues using the company maintenance reporting procedure.
- Complete other duties as assigned to meet store operational needs. Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other Characteristics
- Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
- Ability to handle tense situations with employees and/or customers in a calm and professional manner.
- Ability to remember and follow company procedures.
- Basic math skills, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
- Money-handling skills, including counting money, making change, and balancing the cash drawer at the beginning and end of the shift.
- Ability to operate the cash register, lottery equipment, and any other software or equipment required for the job. Required Education, Experience, and Training
- Convenience store experience is preferred.
- Employee must complete required company training as assigned. Physical Demands and Work Environment
- Must have sufficient vision, with or without reasonable accommodation, to operate cash registers, lottery terminals, and other store equipment safely and accurately.
- Must have sufficient hearing, with or without reasonable accommodation, to communicate with customers, vendors, and employees.
- May sit for extended periods during training or scheduled meetings.
- Will stand and walk throughout the store for extended periods of time.
- Frequently lifts and carries 20 to 50 pounds.
- May occasionally lift or carry up to 100 pounds. A team lift is required when needed.
- Must be able to grasp money, products, and inventory items repeatedly during the shift.
- May occasionally crawl, climb, or kneel.
- Will frequently bend, squat, balance, push, pull, and reach above shoulder height.
- Work is performed in a convenience store/retail environment.
- May be exposed to coolers, freezers, hot food equipment, cleaning chemicals, fuel odors, outdoor weather conditions, and varying noise levels.
- May work around customers, vendors, and employees in a fast-paced environment.
- May be required to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and varying shifts.
