ReStore Associates routinely assist with unloading donations, moving furniture, appliances, building materials, stocking merchandise, loading customer purchases, and maintaining sales floor and warehouse operations. Employees should be comfortable performing physical work throughout the day, including standing, walking, bending, reaching, squatting, pushing, pulling, and climbing in and out of loading areas. This position also requires regular exposure to varying environmental conditions, including heat, cold, humidity, dust, and changing weather conditions while working in warehouse, donation, loading, and outdoor environments. Position Summary The ReStore Associate plays an important role in advancing the mission of Maumee Valley Habitat for Humanity by supporting the daily operations of ReStore. ReStore generates critical resources to support Habitat's work while providing the community with affordable access to new and gently used furniture, appliances, home accessories, building materials, and other household items. This position creates a welcoming and positive experience for customers, donors, volunteers, and community members while helping ensure donations are safely received, appropriately priced, displayed, and efficiently moved through the store. The ReStore Associate is expected to demonstrate Habitat's values through excellent customer service, teamwork, respect for others, responsible stewardship of donated resources, and a commitment to creating a safe and inclusive environment. Essential Responsibilities Customer & Donor Experience Provide friendly, helpful, and mission-focused service to customers, donors, volunteers, and community members. Greet customers and donors, answer questions, assist with merchandise, explain ReStore policies, and answer phone inquiries. Assist customers with loading purchases and donors with unloading donations. Help create an environment where every person feels welcomed, respected, and valued. Serve as an ambassador for Maumee Valley Habitat for Humanity by helping customers and donors understand how their support of ReStore contributes to Habitat's mission. Store Operations & Merchandising Support daily floor and warehouse operations to ensure an organized, efficient, and positive shopping experience. Prepare appropriate space for incoming merchandise and create logical and safe merchandise displays. Assist with pricing and the efficient movement of donated items from donation intake to the sales floor. Support appropriate inventory turnover and responsible stewardship of donated goods. Assist with checkout, bagging, and cashier coverage as needed. Help promote the ReStore brand and mission throughout the store. Volunteer Engagement Welcome and engage volunteers as valued partners in Habitat's mission. Provide volunteers with clear direction, training, and support to help them contribute successfully. Work collaboratively with staff to create meaningful volunteer experiences. Provide day-to-day supervision and guidance to volunteers as assigned. Safety & Stewardship Maintain clean, organized, and safe sales floor, warehouse, restroom, donation, and work areas. Follow established safety procedures and immediately address or report unsafe conditions. Handle donated merchandise, equipment, and organizational resources responsibly. Help maintain a workplace that reflects pride in the ReStore and the Habitat mission. Teamwork & Mission Work collaboratively with ReStore staff, Habitat employees, volunteers, and community partners. Demonstrate flexibility and a willingness to assist wherever needed to support successful store operations. Attend staff meetings and training as scheduled. Demonstrate a commitment to Maumee Valley Habitat for Humanity's mission, values, and ethical standards in daily interactions and decisions. Perform other duties as assigned in support of ReStore and organizational needs. Qualifications, Skills & Experience High school diploma or GED preferred; equivalent relevant work experience will be considered. Must be at least 18 years of age. Previous retail, customer service, warehouse, nonprofit, or related experience preferred. Experience working with or providing direction to volunteers or team members is preferred. Strong customer service and interpersonal skills with the ability to interact effectively with customers, donors, volunteers, homeowners, community partners, staff, and the general public. Ability to communicate expectations clearly and respectfully. Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to handle customer or volunteer concerns professionally. Ability to work effectively as part of a team while also working independently when needed. Ability to prioritize and manage multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced environment. Knowledge of building materials and home improvement products is helpful but not required. Basic computer skills, including email and Microsoft Office applications. Valid driver's license and ability to meet Maumee Valley Habitat for Humanity's vehicle insurance requirements when driving is an essential responsibility of the position. CPR, AED, and First Aid certification required; training will be provided if necessary.
