Job Description

Holiday Scanner Position type: Seasonal employment. Non-Exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).
Description:
The Norfolk Botanical Garden is looking for Holiday Scanners to help with our famous Dominion Energy Garden of Lights! This role will provide a welcoming and efficient entry experience for guests by scanning and verifying admission tickets, answering general questions, providing directions, and sharing relevant event or Garden information.
Schedule:
3:30pm-8:30pm on Value Nights, and 3:30pm-9:30pm on Popular Nights. Evening, weekend, and occasional holiday availability required.
Essential Functions:
  • Welcome guests and scan admission tickets for entry into assigned areas, events, or experiences.
  • Verify tickets are valid for the appropriate date, event, and number of guests.
  • Provide friendly, accurate information regarding event details, Garden amenities, operating hours, and other frequently asked questions.
  • Assist with guest wayfinding and provide directions to event locations, attractions, restrooms, food and beverage areas, and other Garden spaces.
  • Direct guests with invalid tickets, ticketing concerns, or other admission issues to the appropriate team member or location for assistance.
  • Help maintain an organized and efficient guest flow at assigned entrances and scanning locations.
  • Remain familiar with event-specific information, procedures, closures, and other details communicated by supervisors.
  • Use handheld scanners, radios, laptops, or other equipment necessary to support admissions and guest communication.
  • Communicate guest concerns, operational issues, or safety concerns to the appropriate supervisor.
  • Assist with Garden-wide events and other duties as assigned.
Essential Physical Functions:
  • Ability to remain seated and/or standing for extended periods throughout the assigned shift.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with guests, coworkers, and supervisors in an active public environment.
  • Ability to operate handheld scanning devices, radios, laptops, and other basic event equipment.
  • Ability to walk throughout assigned Garden areas as needed, including responding to operational or emergency situations as directed.
  • Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather and environmental conditions, depending on assignment.
Qualifications:
  • Previous customer service, hospitality, admissions, retail, event, or other guest-facing experience preferred.
  • Friendly and professional demeanor with a strong commitment to providing excellent guest service.
  • Strong verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to learn and accurately communicate basic Garden and event information.
  • Comfortable using handheld technology and basic electronic equipment; training will be provided.
  • Ability to remain calm, courteous, and helpful when assisting guests with questions or concerns.
  • Ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively with supervisors and other team members.
  • Dependable and punctual with the ability to reliably report for scheduled shifts.
  • Availability to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and special events based on Garden needs.

Rate:
